MUNSTER B CHAMPIONSHIP: The Munster B uneven age Championship took place at Clarecastle, Co. Clare last Sunday December 4th 2016. Kilgarvan had a number of athletes competing in the various age categories. All the athletes did well - the results are as follows: Maggie O’Donoghue competed in the Girls Under 9, Boys under 11 Kieran O’Donoghue 10th, Cathal Kelleher 14th and Thomas O’Reilly also competed. The Kerry team placed 3rd and Kieran and Cathal were on that bronze medal winning team. Their club Kenmare placed 4th with 154 points just one point behind 3rd place Ennis AC. Kieran, Cathal, Thomas and Daragh Murphy from Sneem were members of that team. In the Boys under 13 years Timothy O’Donoghue ran very well to place 4th. In the Boys under 15 Michael O’Reilly probably had his best cross country race to date and placed 4th only ten seconds behind the winner Fintan O’Sullivan Dooneen A.C. Limerick. Note Well done to all the coaches and support staff who helped out with the training programmes since early September. Chairperson Conor Daly, Clare Randles, Jerry O’Shea, John Guest, Louise Randles, Bernie O’Connor/Tagney, Caroline O’Sullivan , Tadgh O’Donoghue and Angela O’Reilly. The second level Schools Cross Country Championships are held January, February and March 2017. Also indoor Track competition will be held in February and March. For the National School children the indoor training programme begins in January every Friday night. BOB WALSH MEMORIAL: Congratulations to the Kilgarvan/Kenmare underage Hurling team who were presented with the Bob Walsh Memorial shield for a second year in a row. The shield was presented to Joann Murphy, John Creedon, Sean O’Regan and Sheila McCarthy on Tuesday night 6th December 2016 at the Coiste na nOg AGM. Their major achievement was winning the County under 16 League and Championship in 2016 and the U14s reached the semi finals of the County Hurling league. Well done to all.
