When is the most popular time to get engaged?

-

CHRISTMAS is a great time to get married but it’s also a brilliant time to get engaged. Chances are some of you reading this will be dreaming of a Christmas wedding in 2017 but haven’t (as yet) been proposed to. With that in mind, the purpose of this little piece is to hand out some subtle hints!

According to a recent wedding study in the UK, over 10,000 people said they felt the most popular day of the year to get married was Christmas Eve (hint, hint). It’s hard to disagree with this given it’s a time of year when family and friends tend to be around and the atmosphere is at its best. On top of that, you’ll also set yourselves a goal by getting engaged and married inside twelve months- a ‘Christmas to Christmas’ sort of arrangement, perhaps.

If Christmas doesn’t quite float your boat as a time to get engaged, note the next most popular time is Valentine’s Day. I guess the good news here is that it’s still early in the New Year which still gives you amble time to plan for that Christmas wedding. And just to go full circle, in third place is New Year’s Eve which - you’ve probably guessed the trend by now - is again leaving you both with plenty scope to arrange a festive wedding.

St Stephen’s Day doesn’t feature at all, hardly, with just 2% citing it as a good day to propose. However, there’s room for some imagination here if you’re one for bucking trends as chances are you’ll totally catch your partner off guard on Stephen’s Day as they’ll have been expected it to happen on Christmas Eve. Just a thought!

Finally, here’s a parting caveat for you to mull over: when the survey was broken down into gender preference, men chose Christmas Eve as the most romantic time to propose, while the majority of women preferred Valentine’s Day as the best time to get engaged. So, if you’re a woman, chances are you’re getting engaged this week; and if you’re a guy, you have a few more weeks left before saying ‘yes’.
