Fassbender set to take acting hiatus
KILLARNEY’S Michael Fassbender is to say a brief goodbye to the glitz and glamour of tinseltown next year as he plans on taking a brief hiatus from acting in 2017, after a marathon decade of filmmaking in which the Fossa native starred in over 29 different films.
Fassbender, who was honoured by his hometown for his stellar achievments in the acting world with the prestigious 2016 Order of Inisfallen Award back in October has recently admitted in an interview that the last few years of his career have been pretty “full-on” and admits that he is looking forward to some time off.
“It’s been pretty full-on. I had a ferocious appetite and energy for it, and I went at it like a maniac, but I’m going to be taking some downtime now. The last five years or so, I was verging on being a workaholic; I’ve just been going from film to film,” said the actor, speaking in an interview with Time Out magazine.
“I guess I do ask myself: why have I worked a lot? Why have I attacked the work with such a frenzy? Maybe I wanted to leave a body of work behind? Maybe it’s because I worked for quite a while to get to this position, I don’t know. I’m definitely going to take some time off acting now, I’ve given it everything up to this point,” he continued.
So, what will the 39-year old Academy Award nominated actor get up to now in his newly found spare time?
“I do a lot of surfing, which is a fairly new thing to me. I started about four years ago and honestly, it’s an immediate unplug. I learned all over the place but did a stint for ten days at a friends house in Brazil and I broke the back of it there; that was just before shooting ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. I also have a good love of racing and I try to go karting whenever I get a chance,” he finished up.
However long he takes from acting, we here in Kerry will no doubt be counting down the days until one of our exports is back on screen.
