Senior hurlers take on Cork

THE Kerry senior hurlers will get back into action on this Sunday, January 8 with a game against Cork in the 2017 Co-Op Superstore­s Munster senior hurling league. Venue is Mallow where there will be a 2pm throw-in.

This of course will be Kerry’s first competitiv­e encounter under recently appointed manager Fintan O’Connor and in preparatio­n for the game, Kerry had a challenge against CIT on Monday last which they won on a score of 4-14 to 1-20. Each of the Munster counties, excepting Tipperary, will play in this pre-season competitio­n.

Kerry’s first home game will be against Clare on Sunday, January 15 at Austin Stack Park, 2pm. Further games: Round 3 - Sunday, January 22 v Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds, 2p.m.; Round 4 – Wednesday, January 25 v Waterford at Austin Stack Park, 7.30pm.

New senior management team taking shape

THE new Kerry senior hurling manager, Fintan O’Connor has been busy over the Christmas break putting a new senior hurling management team in place. Former Tipperary goalkeepin­g great, Brendan Cummins, is the new coach while Damian Ryall continues in charge of physical training/strength & conditioni­ng. Two new selectors are due to be named later this week while county champions, Kilmoyley, are also expected to name the new Kerry senior hurling captain in the near future.

Club news

THE annual convention of the North Kerry Hurling Board has been fixed for Thursday, January 12 and it will be hosted by the Ballyheigu­e Club. All nomination­s and motions to be with the Secretary, Joe Walsh by this Thursday, January 5. KILMOYLEY Hurling Club has produced a limited edition 2017 Kilmoyley GAA calendar. The “Star Wars” edition calendar is on sale locally at just €10, with a contributi­on from each sale being donated to the Clare Carmody Brick cancer research fund at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Calendars may also be purchased from club Secretary, John Nolan. CROTTA O’Neill’s Hurling Club will hold a victory social on Friday, February 4 at Ballyroe Heights Hotel to mark their 2016 County Minor Hurling Championsh­ip win. The team that won the 1992 County U-21 Championsh­ip will also be honoured on the night. Tickets available at local outlets.
