Lios Tuathail’s Aoife O’Mahoney took gold in both the Junior Women’s 800m and 1,500m at the Munster Junior (Under 23) Track and Field Championships in Templemore, Tipperary.
In the senior club championship semi-finals Dr Crokes ran out relatively comfor table winners over rivals (and 2015 county senior championship finalists) Killarney Legion, 0-12 to 0-7. In the second semi-final Austin Stacks saw off Dingle by the minimum, 1-9 to 0-11. In the relegation playoffs Rathmore saw off Kilcummin 4-8 to 2-9 and Kerins O’Rahillys were comfor table winners over Milltown/Castlemaine 4-11 to 2-10.
In the quarter-finals of the intermediate championship Templenoe were comfortable winners over St Michaels / Foilmore 2-11 to 1-6, Kenmare had four points to spare over Spa, 0-12 to 0-8, while An Ghaeltacht saw off Ardfer t 1-13 to 0-11 to claim a semi-final ber th.
In the premier junior championship there were wins for Knocknagoshel over Tuosist, 1-12 to 1-11; Annascaul over Renard 1-17 to 1-7; Glenbeigh/ Glencar got the better of St Pats after extra-time, 3-11 to 2-15; Tarbert defeated Valentia (after extra-time), 3-12 to 1-10; Listowel Emmets got by Firies 0-12 to 0-11; and Na Gaeil secured a semi-final ber th seeing off Annascaul 2-12 to 2-8.
In the junior championship Castlegregory saw off Cordal 2-15 to 2-14 and Beale saw off Cromane 4-8 to 1-11 before seeing off neighbours Asdee to secure a place in the semi-final 2-12 to 1-13. Listry claimed a semi-final spot seeing off Tarbert 1-12 to 0-10. Scartaglin saw off Knocknagoshel 1-9 to 0-11 and Fossa saw off Castlegregory 1-16 to 0-11.
Killarney Celtic saw off neighbours Killarney Athletics 2-1 in the Under 16 girls cup final. Listowel Celtic hit seven past Mastergeeha to claim the Under 14 girls cup. Iveragh United hit six to secure victory over Killarney Celtic in the Under 14 girls shield final. Killarney Celtic hit three past Killarney Athletic to claim victory in the Under 12 girls shield.
Former county championship winning manager with South Kerry, John Galvin, was appointed manager of the Kenmare District team for the senior football championship.
Cillard won the Kerry camogie Féile final seeing off Causeway comfortably in the final 4-4 to 0-1. Kerry, meanwhile, lost out to Waterford 5-9 to 0-8 in the Munster Under 16 C camogie final.
The Kerry Under 16 girls team retained their Munster title seeing off Cork on a scoreline of 2-9 to 2-5 in Mallow. The Under 14 girls, meanwhile, secured a place in the final seeing off Limerick 3-13 to 1-6 in the semifinal in Martinstown.
In golf Killorglin won the Intermediate Challenge Shield seeing off Tralee in Barrow at the end of a two legged affair.
The Moyvane Division 3 badminton team added All Ireland gold to their roll of honours having already claimed the Kerry Mixed League and the Munster championship.
The Kerry minor footballers saw off Clare in Milltown-Malbay to secure their place in the Munster minor football final. They were made work a little harder for the victory than predicted beforehand, but nevertheless ran out relatively comfor table winners – 1-13 to 1-6.
In the County Senior football championship first round there were wins for St Kierans (over Feale Rangers 1-17 to 1-15), South Kerry (over Kerins O’Rahillys 3-10 to 1-15), Dingle (over Rathmore 1-16 to 2-8), Mid Kerry (over Kilcummin 3-12 to 1-13), Dr Crokes (over West Kerry 5-19 to 1-9), Legion (over Milltown/Castlemaine 5-11 to 0-7), Austin Stacks (over East Kerry 1-16 to 2-8) and Kenmare District (over St Brendans 1-16 to 0-10). In round 2A (the winners round) there were wins for Kenmare District (over Legion 1-12 to 0-10), Milltown / Castlemaine (over East Kerry 1-15 to 1-14), Mid Kerry (over Dingle 3-14 to 2-15), Dr Crokes (over St Kierans 2-16 to 3-12), while South Kerry and Austin Stacks played out a draw 1-13 to 1-13 in Cahersiveen. South Kerry were comfortable winners of the replay 2-10 to 0-8 in Connolly Park. In round 2B (the losers round) Kerins O’Rahillys saw off Feale Rangers 3-11 to 1-11; West Kerry saw off Kilcummin 1-15 to 1-10 and Rathmore saw off St Brendans 3-14 to 1-16.
Killarney Celtic retained the Under 16 cup seeing off St Brendans Park B in the final 4-1. Killorglin A claimed the Under 12 cup seeing off St Brendans Park 2-1. St Brendans Park A claimed the Under 14 cup seeing off Ballyhar 5-2. Listowel Celtic won the Under 13 cup downing Park A two-nil. The Park A claimed the Under 15 cup crown seeing off Killorglin one-nil.
Tralee’s Ultan Dillane was a central part of the Connacht side which claimed the Guinness Pro 12 title seeing off reigning champions Glasgow in the final at Murrayfield.
Paradise Maverik landed the Race of Champions title at the Kerry GAA annual fundraiser at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium.
