KSV Killorglin suffer first loss of season

MEN’S NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION ONE KSV Killorglin 78 BFG Neptune 86

KEANES Supervalu Killorglin lost their first league game of the season to a strong and fast BFG Neptune team in front of a capacity crowd in Killorglin.

Although Killorglin won the jump ball Neptune’s Gary Walsh who opened the scoring before Garni replied. Killorglin went 6-4 ahead after three minutes and continued to dominate and extending their lead to 10-4. Garni Garcia and Ian McLaughlin added to Killorglin’s tally but with Neptune landed three-pointers from Gary Walsh and Tanner Brooks to level it at 14-14.

Further baskets were traded and with five seconds remaining Neptune netted a three to finish 21-18 ahead.

Declan Wall levelled the score early in the second quarter beforfe the hosts went ahead with another three. Killorglin continued to score through Garni Garcia, Henri Bongoma and Ian McLaughlin to briefly take a six-point lead but Neptune were back on level scores the scores with 2.49 left in the half. Adam Drummond was fouled going to the board and with his free throw making it a three-point offence,

Neptune finished stronger adding five unanswered to end the first half Neptune ahead 40 to 45.

Neptune opened the scoring in the second half with a big three to go eight points clear.

Neptune’s lead varied from 6 to 11 points during this quarter and even with Neptune on team fouls it was Saulius who kept the home side scoring with seven points but he picked up his fourth foul and was benched with two minutes to go.

Seamus Brosnan brought KSV within one score with one minute remaining but Neptune rallied again to go 57 to 63 ahead going into the final ten minutes.

In the final quarter Neptune extended their lead to 14 points after three minutes. Ian McLaughlin added 6 points in the final minutes as did Darragh Jones. Bongoma netted a three to cut Neptune’s lead to four with 25 seconds remaining but the visitors Neptune youth and energy kicked in and they won by eight.

Killorglin CYMS were delighted and honoured to have President of Basketball Ireland Theresa Walsh and Communicat­ions Manager Mary McGuire in the complex on Saturday with the game being live streamed through Facebook.
