Kahara Kev wins for former KGS general manager

-

IT’S a few years since Abbeyfeale’s John Ward vacated his job as general manager at Tralee Track, but he does pay the occasional visit to the Oakview venue and he was back with a right bang last Saturday when producing a greyhound to produce the fastest time of the night for the standard trip.

That greyhound was Kahara Kev, which clocked 28.98 in easily winning the eighth race for A5 class. Housed in trap 1 and installed the even-money favourite, Kahara Kev took up the running from Gale Dasher off the second bend and he went right away to score by four and a half lengths from Baltoability, which ran on well from the back of the field.

Kahara Kev was actually making it three wins in a row for Ward, having gained back-toback victories previously at Limerick, and he was one of four clear favourites to oblige on the night-- in sharp contrast to Friday night when all ten favourites were beaten. As well, two 2/1 joint favourites also won.

There were just nine races and the last of them saw that most genuine of bitches, Fridas Secret, gain a fifth victory from her last seven starts for Liam and Theresa Holohan, of Abbeydorney. She, too, was an even-money favourite running from trap 1 (A2 525) and she made maximum use of her rails position to get herself into a winning position around the opening bend on the inside of Baltovin Rose, which was to badly lose her position on the back straight.

Slippy Ray did look a danger turning for home after running the back straight really well, but he wasn’t able to see his challenge through and Lenas Cindy, though up no less than six grades, finished strongly to take the runner-up position two and a half lengths behind Fridas Secret, with a neck back to Slippy Ray. The time was 29.08.

The other winning favourites were Renard Ronnie (6/4), which won the opening sprint in 18.23, and Toremore Sparkle (6/4), which won the second race in 29.16, while the other winners were: Seomra Starwars, 17.88; Knock Eagle, 29.62; Banfid Cymru, 29.38; Tarmons Holly, 18.12; Rathronan Global, 31.54 (570yds).
