NOT A BAD MORNING’S WORK AT LIR CAFE!
WITH almost €5,500 raised for The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA), Alan Oliver and his staff at Lir Cafe in Killarney can be rightly proud of their efforts last Wednesday. They travelled from across the county in support of the cause and enjoyed a first class cup of coffee and no lack of treats too.
Almost €2,300 was raised on the day and Monex boss Frank Murphy has pledged to match the funds, making the final total an impressive €5,500.
“I want to thank everyone who turned up on the day, it was an absolute delight to be able to do something for the cause,” said Alan.
IMNDA is close to Alan’s heart as his mother recently passed away from the debilitating condition and so he was rightfully proud of the effort put in by everyone on the day.
“It was a massive success and people commented that they had never seen a coffee morning like it. We must have had upwards of 280 people present throughout the morning.”
“What made the morning even more special is that we had a family travel from Caherdaniel, who had lost a fam- ily member last year to motor neurone; we also had a number of spouses whose loved ones are currently battling the disease. I never thought the morning would generate the kind of money and discussion it did. I also had chat with a woman about the support available for motor neurone and this was rewarding as she didn’t know such services were available locally. So if nothing else, the discussions held that morning might help people,” he continued.
Following this success, we wonder is a second coffee morn- ing in the pipeline?
“Frank and I actually discussed this and we decided that next year we will try and spread the proceeds around. Frank feels strongly about Pieta House and South West Counselling in Killarney. So this might be our focus next time,” Alan added.
