U-21 CHAMPIONSHIP FIRST ROUND Beaufort 4-13 Laune Rangers 2-7

BEAUFORT knocked the reigning champions of the top ensuring a semi final encounter with Keel/Listry.

This game was played in good spirits on a crisp January afternoon, Laune Rangers were first to the breaking ball but Beaufort were quick on the attack, however, scoring attempts by both sides were in vain for the first few minutes of the game with the opening score coming in the sixth minute for the homeside in the way of a Darragh Coffey free.

This score was cancelled out with a Fiachra Clifford free. Beaufort’s Aaron Foley secured two more points followed by a well taken goal from Darragh Coffey. Ciaran Kennedy saw his shot sail over the bar.

The visitors made a comeback with two points (Patrick Daly and John Tyther) which was followed quickly by a superb goal of the boot of David Costello which was to be their last score in this half.

Beaufort were on top all over the field, Liam Carey been man of the moment scored a point and then skilfully catching the kick out passed off the ball to Niall O’Connor whose shot found the back of the Rangers net.

In the closing minutes of this half Beaufort’s Danny Healy, Ciaran Kennedy, Liam Carey and Aaron Foley were the dominant forces resulting in a goal and a point from the boot of Aaron Foley. The half-time score was Beaufort 3-6 Laune Rangers 1-3.

Beaufort began the second half like they finished the first in great style which saw Niall O’Connor and Liam Carey add points to keep Beaufort well on top. Minutes later the home side were rewarded a penalty, which Liam Carey duly converted for Beaufort’s fourth goal followed closely with points from Mike Breen and Danny Healy.

Patrick Carey Laune Rangers added two point to his tally which were cancelled out by the home side. Twenty-seven minutes gone and the game slipping away from their gasp Laune Rangers’s David Costello scored a mighty consolation goal.
