Kerry Youths out of Inter-League after heavy loss to Clare

-

FAI YOUTHS INTER-LEAGUE Kerry DL 5 Clare DL 0

KERRY bowed out of the Youths Inter League in disappointing fashion at Mounthawk Park on Sunday going down heavily to a much better Clare side who had little difficulty winning the game.

A draw would have been sufficient to put Kerry through to the knock out stages of the national competition and that looked unachievable early on as they were 2-0 down after just 9 minutes.

Kerry appeared suspect from set pieces conceding the opening two goals from corner kicks.

The first came in the 4th minute with Jamie Roche finding the head of Jack Davitt and he rose high to find the net.

Roche caused mayhem in the Kerry defence with the second corner five minutes later and the ball went in off a defender.

Kerry made a few ventures into opposition territory as the half progressed but efforts from Thomas Burke and Darren Mulcahy did not bother the Clare custodian.

However they were caught napping again in the 32nd minute when Robbie Walker and Jamie Roche combined to set up Jack Davitt and he fired home his secod goal of the game.

Any chance Kerry had of getting back into the game went out the window a minute from the break when Clare scored their fourth goal. This time Jamie Roche ran on to an accurate John Doherty cross and he found the net from close range.

Clare extended their lead further 10 minutes into the second half with Jamie Roche making a great run from midfield and he applied a great finish fron close range. After this it was just going through the motions for both sides.

Overall it was a bad day at the office for Kerry who were outplayed by a well organised and slick Clare side.
