COURSES DURING SPRING

We will be running a number of courses as usual during Spring, Safe Pass, and a Cookery Course with John Casey starting early in the New Year. An Occupation­al First Aid course with Annmarie Lynch will be starting on Wednesday February 1st 9.30 am go 3pm and on Mondays and Wednesdays for the following 2 weeks. DIARY DATE

Eigse na Brídeoge will be celebratin­g 25 years this year. Bígí Linn February 3rd to 5th. The official opening will be on Friday Evening in Caherdanie­l Hall at 7.30 with the Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs Seán Kyne TD.

This will be followed by a showing of the film Fís na Fuiseoige with a presentati­on from the director Aodh O Coileán. This prizewinni­ng film explores the close bond between Irish Poetry and the landscape. Free admission. This will be followed by a night of song from guests of the Éigse and friends in the Blind Piper from 10pm and everyone is welcome.

On Saturday morning in Dromid there will be four artists speaking of their lives, work and the importance of bi-lingualism in their world. In the afternoon at the Sea Lodge there will be a panel discussion on the future of Irish in Iveragh chaired by Professor Muiris O Laoire and addressed by Adrian Cain from the Isle of Man who is the Manx language officer. At the same venue that evening there will be a rousing concert of traditiona­l music from the Albiez Trio followed by an informal session.

This year’s Éigse mass will be held in St Michaels Church Dungegan at 11am and this will be broadcaste­d live on Radio na Gaeltachta. Immediatel­y afterwards in the Community Centre there will be two workshops on making the St Bridget’s Cross and the Manx language so avail of the opportunit­y and learn a cúpla focal of Manx. At 2.30 pm in the same church there will be a concert featuring material from the Binneas Collection with Peter and Rosaleen Mullarkey, Tim Dennehy, Seán Garvey, Selena Ní Chonaill, Marian O Neill, Stephen Scales and Ceoltoirí Óga Uíbh Ráthaigh. This will be recorded by Radio na Gaeltachta. Admission Free. Farm ShopThe Farm Shop will be open every Friday from 10am to 4pm until further notice.

DANCING

Congratula­tions to Ava Galvin, Aoibheann Galvin and Caoilainn Breen who were very successful at the weekend at the CRDM Cork open feis. Between them they won 11 trophies and 4 med- als. The girls are pupils of the Bernie O’Sullivan school of Irish dancing in Kenmare .
