THE LATE GERRY MURPHY

It was with great sadness we heard that our good friend Gerry Murphy, Killorglin had passed away. Lord have mercy on his soul! Gerry was a Dublinman but became a Kerryman when he married Miss Ann McCarthy, The Square, Killorglin, many years ago. Gerry was No,I at all sports, Golf,Bowling, Dancing, Eletrics, Singing, name any sport and he was the best! . Gerry joined in all bus tours that SeanChaird­e took to Mayo, Donegal, Clare etc. He loved travelling with Margaret SWEENEY,s tours, we got our quota of sweets for the journey. He was one generous man!,Gerry loved dancing on board ship, he always asked the ladies of Killorglin who travelled with him. His name is even down for the Cruise in March. God bless you Gerry! The Bowlers of Killorglin, Beaufort, Glenbeigh, and Killarney will miss you.

Our deepest sympathy to your daughters Rosemarie, Ann, Emir and Miriam, and sons in law and Grandchild­ren. May you rest in the arms of the Lord!

BOI ENTERPRISE

A launch event will be on Friday 3 Rd February in Bank of Ireland, Killorglin at 4.00pm and all are welcome to hear the details of the Enterprise Town 2017 and discuss. Tea and coffee will be provided. Any business or community group attending the launch will be given preference in allocation of slots for the enterprise Town Exhibition. The Rituals of St. Bridget—Purity—Protection and Parturiton is the title of an illustrate­d lecture to be given on the 3rd. February in the KCYMS. (Mini Thetre) when we can learn of happenings on St. Bridget Day. All are welcome to the talk by archaeolog­ist Billy Mag fhloinn (UL). Arranged by Killorglin History and Folklore Society in associatio­n with the Biddy,s Day Committee which has a weekend of activities organised? .

CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to three students from Killorglin Community College who have brought huge honour to their school after their achievemen­ts in this years BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in Dublin’s RDS recently. Jack Nagle with his ‘Tractor Safety Lock’, Timothy McGrath with his ‘Ultra Vision’ which assists visually impaired people and Natasha Myers with her project ‘Does playing my board game help people with dyslexia’ Staff, students, parents and the wider community are very proud of Jack, Timothy and Natasha. Congratula­tions and well done.

TIDY TOWNS

Killorglin Tidy Towns will hold their Annual AGM in O’Grady’s Bar, on Thursday February 23rd at 8pm. If you would like to bring a particular issue to the notice of our committee group, we would appreciate if you could get in touch and we will make every effort to add same to the Agenda. There are great plans in the pipe line for 2017, as we strive towards the elusive ‘medals’ category and as always we would be delighted if you had a spare hour to help out!

Most of our volunteers, work on particular projects and get involved at times of the year that suit their own commitment­s. Do you have a special gift or talent and bursting to get involved in the community, please don’t hesitate to come along and introduce yourself to anyone of the committee. We too are all VOLUNTEERS giving of our time to better our town.We meet every Saturday morning, 10 am at the monument in the Fairfield for c. 2 hours to clean, plant, paint and enjoy the great outdoors !!You are welcome to join us any Saturday morning–old friends and new always welcome!

Come along with whatever cleaning tools you have at home. Gloves, brushes, shovels, pickers, weed scrapers, and most importantl­y a good smile. Tell your friends and neighbours perhaps they too might like to come along.

A very special mention to Declan Mangan of Killorglin Pantomime. Last performanc­e of Robin Hood is this coming Sunday Feb 5th in the INEC Killarney. He even has a verse dedicated to Tidy Towns. Bring the family you wont be disappoint­ed.Killorglin Tidy Towns Wildlife crew have been busy with the Secondary Schools putting new bird boxes in place. More details to follow later on.
