THIS week the column is all about draws and who plays who in 2017 as the draws for the GUI Cups & Shields have been made in the past week.

Jimmy Bruen Shield

Let’s begin with the GUI Cups and Shields and first into action this season are the Jimmy Bruen players who begin with preliminar­y rounds on Sunday May 7 at Dooks and Newcastlew­est.

At Dooks, in PM 1 Killorglin play Glengarrif­f and Ring of Kerry play Kenmare in PM 2 while at in PM 1 Newcastlew­est where Castlegreg­ory play Kanturk.

The following Saturday at Dooks the winners of PM 1 take on the hosts, Ceann Sibeal play Berehaven, Killarney play Waterville and the winners of PM 2 meet Beaufort.

While at Newcastlew­est on the same day, the host club meet the winners of PM 1 along with Ballybunio­n versus Ballyheigu­e, Castleisla­nd versus Doneraile and Ross versus Tralee.

Pierce Purcell Cup

The following Sunday May 21 the Pierce Purcell preliminar­ies begin with Glengarrif­f playing Ring of Kerry in PM 1 at Beaufort while Ceann Sibeal play Waterville in PM 1 at Killorglin while Dooks play Newcastlew­est in PM 2 at the same venue.

The first round then gets underway the following Saturday May 20 at Beaufort where the winners of PM 1 meet Doneraile as Kanturk play Beaufort, Kenmare play Ross and Berehaven meet Killarney.

At the other venue (Killorglin) the winners of PM 1 meet Ballybunio­n, Castlegreg­ory meet Killorglin, Ballyheigu­e play Castleisla­nd and Tralee face the winners of PM 2.

Irish Mixed Foursomes

The next event down for decision is the Irish Mixed Foursomes which is being played this year at Ring of Kerry and Kanturk and the action begins on Sunday June 11 at Ring of Kerry where Killarney face Berehaven in the only preliminar­y match.

The following Saturday June 17 the host club take on the winners of the preliminar­y match, Dooks play Ceann Sibeal, Glengarrif­f play Waterville and Kenmare meet Ross.

Meanwhile, at Kanturk on the same day, Newcastlew­est meet Ballybunio­n (the winners play Kanturk who have a bye, in the afternoon) as Ballyheigu­e play Killorglin, Tralee play Castleisla­nd and Doneraile play Castlegreg­ory.
