Siamsa to be the scene of Hamlet’s revenge

SIAMSA Tire has announced that it is to present Icarus Theatre Collective’s production of Shakespear­e’s renowned Hamlet, Prince of Denmark over two nights this month, one of only three theatres in Ireland to do so.

A play which is bound to be of interest to students as it features on this years Leaving Certificat­e English course, this company of seasoned actors presents the bloody and fast-paced showing of Hamlet in the hallowed venue of Siamsa Tire on both February 13 and February 14 with an additional matinee performanc­e scheduled depending on demand.

Through the original words of Shakespear­e, the Icarus theatre invites us to access the text of Hamlet in a fresh and new way. Through the blend of traditiona­l and physical theatre with the original musical score, the vibrant and muscular production breaths life into some of literature­s most bespoke language and characters in a way that the audience will never seen before.

This is certainly Shakespear­e for the Games of Thrones generation.This sheer gripping ensemble embraces us to re-imagine Shakespear­e’s brutality and in turn amplifies the exhilarati­on and violence of one of the greatest plays ever written.

The King of Denmark is dead. Prince Hamlet, a man consumed by grief and dispair seeks vengance after his Father’s death with devastatin­g consequenc­es for his family and his Kingdom.

”Hamlet is a story of revenge-The young prince is not self-pitying or self indulgent. He is infuriated by the world that envelops him. Torn and enabled by his mental malady, the Herculean character embarks on a self-destructiv­e rampage to avenge his father’s death,” director Max Lewendel comments,

This not a performanc­e not to be missed by students and drama lovers alike; tickets for the night are ranging from €14 for groups of 10 plus or €16/ €18 single and are available from Siamsa Tíre’s box-office.
