Gun Club raises over €100k in a decade
KILLORGLIN Gun Club have presented a cheque for €3,800 to Killorglin Hospice as part of the its annual social in which the sharpshooters from the Laune raise and donate money to various Kerry charities – an event that has raised in excess of €100,000 since it started over a decade ago.
The funds will go towards assisting hospice nurses in the county and also a new hospice unit in Tralee which is nearing completion. “It’s good to give something back to the community. We’re delighted to help in a small way with so many charities who do great work,” said Mike O’Shea, Secretary of Killorglin Gun Club.
“Cancer is something that effects everyone and we’re just delighted to play a part in helping where we can. The annual club social is something that has waned in recent years, but our social is one that is very well-attend and people look forward to it. I also just want to thank all the farmers for the use of their land throughout the year,” added Mike.
Kay Woods of Killorglin Hospice said they very much appreciate the donation which will go towards funding hospice nurses who work all across the county, and are in short supply. The new palliative care unit in Tralee will also benefit.
“We really appreciate this and we would like to thank Killorglin Gun Club for thinking of us. The funds are very much welcome, especially this year as the unit in Tralee is almost complete. Hospice care is far from something that is confined to one area as our nurses’ travel all over the county doing great work.
“This cheque will also help the unit in Tralee, which is not supported by anyone other than the people committed to raising funds for hospice care,” added Kay.
