TO mark the first anniversary of the passing of Jeremiah G Coffey his family and friends in the Farranfore area are coming together for a day of fun and golf in his honour. The proceeds of the day will go to the Kerry/Cork Health Link Bus.

Ladies, gents, beginners and non golfers are all welcome to take part. The format will be a four person, 12 hole scramble. Cost €80 per team of four.

Participants are being asked to wear something RED on the day eg: Liverpool, Arsenal, even Manchester United or Cork. The event will kick off at Killorglin Golf Club – his former club from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, February 25.

There will be a prize presentation at Sherwood’s Bar at 9pm that night with a raffle, spot prizes and novelties to be won.

Local man, Mike Sheehan and Ger were great friends and Mike is helping organise the big day on February 25. “Ger was a total gentleman who loved Liverpool Football Club. He had the red Liverpool cap knitted to his head – you could say.

“He was popular with young and old alike. He had a good word for everyone and he could always see the funny side of things. As a result he had a huge circle of friends.

“He was a great friend and a supporter of everything local and very knowledgeable in all sports. He was a supporter of Firies GAA Club; Ballyhar Dynamos; Killorglin Golf Club and he was a founder member of the Farranfore Golf Society. He participated, always successfully, on teams in local table quizzes and he took a great pride and an active part in Farranfore Tidy Towns.

“Ger was always in good form and he was the kind of person you’d look forward to meeting and being in his company. The day is all about remembering Ger and making a bit of money for the Kerry/Cork Health Link Bus as it was his favourite charity,” said Mr Sheehan.
