1. IT’S GAVIN JAMES’ TIME TO ROCK THE INEC IN KILLARNEY

THE INEC in Killarney is getting ready to welcome back one of its most famous sons this weekend as one of Ireland’s most popular musical talents back to the South Kerry venue.

Gavin James will return to Killarney on the night of Saturday, February 18 and he says that people can expect a varied type of show on the night, but that one thing that he can guarantee is that people will have a great time at his show with a mixture of new and old songs set to be performed on the night.

Tickets for the night are set to cost €27.90 and doors are set to open on the night at 8pm with show itself set to start at 9pm sharp

2. EDDI READER TO RETURN ‘HOME’ TO TRALEE AT SIAMSA

AN AWARD winning singer songwriter is getting ready to return to what she considers her spiritual home of Tralee this coming weekend where she will perform in the hallowed venue of the famous Siamsa Tíre on the night of February 19.

Eddi Reader, who along with her then-band ‘Fairground Attraction’ gained worldwide attention back in 1988 and 1989 for the song ‘Perfect’ recently said in an interview with The Kerryman that when sings in Siamsa and in Tralee, it feels like she is singing to her beloved Tralee grandmothe­r who hailed from the town.

Tickets for the show are set at €23/ €21 and are available to buy from Siamsa Tíre; it is guaranteed to be a noisy, fun and emotional evening so don’t miss out.

3. TRALEE LIONS CLUB TO HOLD CANCER SUPPORT QUIZ

SAVE the date Thursday February 16 (aka tomorrow) in your mind as this night will see the hardworkin­g anmd generous volunteers from the Tralee Lions Club hold a fundraisdi­ng quiz in aid of one of the area’s most deserving charities.

Tralee Lions Club is a voluntary organisati­on that consists of ordinary people who do extraordin­ary things to help others and support a large number of local good causes and next week the group will be helping out the Kerry/Cork Health Link Bus in the form of their annual table quiz,

The quiz will be held at the Meadowland­s Hotel in Tralee on Thursday night with proceeding­s set to kick off from 8.30pm on the night; this is sure to be a good evening so make sure that you don’t miss out.

4. TRALEE TABLE QUIZ IN AID OF PIETA HOUSE

ORGANISERS behind the Darkness Into Light Tralee walk are getting ready to hold a fundraisin­g table quiz in the Brogue Inn in Tralee next week in aid of Pieta House, Preventing Suicide and Self Harm and they are looking for as many people as possible to come and take part on the night.

The quiz will kick off on the night at 7:30pm and a table of four is set to cost €40; this night is all for a worthy cause so make you come down and show your support on the evening.

5. ENJOY A RELAXING TALE IN WATERVILLE THIS WEEKEND

A new play inspired by Sean O’Casey’s 3rd autobiogra­phy by Eddie Naughton, about O’Casey’s life in – and leaving of – Dublin is all set to entertain the masses in the Tech Amergin Arts Centre in Waterville this Saturday, February 18 from 8pm.

Set in his house in Devon, when Sean O’Casey is 78 years of age, this is a story of O’Casey’s life growing up in Dublin; Ronan Wilmot will perform this unique story of Ireland’s greatest socialist/ political playwright and only last Friday Ronan performed this drama to a packed theatre of almost 300 people in the Pavillion Theatre Dublin.

6. DRAMATIC NIGHT IN STORE FOR BALLYMAC ACTORS

FOLLOWING on from last year’s very successful run of Off the Hook, Ballymacel­ligott Drama Group are back again this year with their production of “The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley”.

The groups three performanc­es will start at 8pm on Friday 17 Saturday 18 and Sunday 19th of February at the Ivy Leaf Theatre in Castleisla­nd.

This is the groups twenty-fifth production and looks like being another great nights entertainm­ent.

7. DINGLE’S DONNIE TO RUN FOR 8 HOURS FOR CHARITY

A DINGLE man is getting set to undertake a gruelling challenge in the name of charity this week when he sets foot on a treadmill in Centra Supermarke­t on Dingle’s Main Street this coming Friday.

Donnie Hilliard will run for 8 hours non-stop on Friday, February 17 from 9am onwards, all to highlight the importance of mental health awareness and to help raise funds for the non-profit therapy service Cuan Counsellin­g.

Donnie is hopeful that as many people as possible will come out and show support and donate towards positive mental health.

8. GET WALKING IN DINGLE FOR FAMOUS FESTIVAL

PEOPLE of West Kerry and beyond, make sure that you lace up your walking shoes this weekend as Dingle and its surroundin­g area prepares for a weekend of fun at the Dingle Walking Festival.

As a result of being one of the most beautiful areas in Kerry, it is one of the premier walking destinatio­ns in the world and so, this walking festival, which will take place from February 17 - Februry 19 inclusive, shall present walking enthusiast­s of all ages and levels the opportunit­y to experience this geological jewel first hand for themselves.

9. ENJOY SOCIAL DANCING IN THE GRAND HOTEL

THE Chernobyl Children’s Fun Tralee are this coming Wednesday, February 1, getting set to host the first of their weekly social dance nights in the Grand Hotel and they are encouragin­g as many people as possible to come along and a enjoy a great nights dancing while supporting a very worthy cause.

The charity run the dance nights in order to help meet the costs of bringing children from the nuclear disaster zone to Kerry for a holiday every summer.

The dances at the hotel start at 9pm every Wednesday night and run until 11:30pm; the cost of entry for each night is set at €8. These dances are a great way of beating those winter blues.

The line up for the month is as follows: Eddie Keogh (February 15) and Declan Augier (February 22).

10. GET EXERCISING WITH THE TRALEE PARKRUN CREW

FEBRUARY is here and we hope that people are still going strong; exercise and health are the in so why not try to head down to the Tralee Town Park this coming Saturday morning and take part in the weekly park run?

The 5km run/walk is completely free of charge and is a great way to start your weekend.

The morning is very well organised and supported and starts at 9:30am sharp every Saturday, so make sure that you pop down on the morning and try it out; there’s no better way to start a Saturday morning off and you certainly won’t regret it if you do head down.
