Keanes Supervalu lost to Maree from Galway in a tough physical game in Killorglin Sports Complex on Saturday.

It was Keanes Supervalu who got off to the stronger start with baskets from Ian McLoughlin and Garni Garcia, with strong defence from Keanes Maree found it hard to net and Keanes went ahead 7 to 2. But two quick successive scores from Marees it was level at seven points with just over seven minutes played. For the final three minutes Keanes were chasing Maree but two three pointers from Seamus Brosnan and Ignus made it level. Maree got the final score of the quarter to nudge ahead 15 to 18.

The second quarter Keanes SV started very poorly with Maree sailing ahead and with Keanes getting into foul trouble fell behind 20 to 31. Ian McLoughlin and Ignus adding baskets and rallying round Keanes brought it back with ignus netting a three. With the introducti­on of Darragh Jones his determinat­ion to win the ball for Keanes SV Ignus managed a layup under fierce pressure from Marees defence put Keanes ahead for the first time in the quarter 34 to 33. With Wall being brought to the free throw line following Team fouls by Maree Keanes led by 2. Marees Edna Walsh snuck in from behind scoring the equaliser on the buzzer the half time score was all level 35 a side.

The second half Maree added 9 points without reply from Keanes in the first 2 minutes and continued to dominate both ends of the court leading by 21 points 39 to 60 with over 4 minutes to quarter end. Keanes SV staged a mini comeback with Declan Wall adding 8 points along with scores from Garni and Ian McLoughlin. With 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter Garny Garcia was brought successful­ly to the free throw line reducing Keanes deficit to 11 points 55 to Marees 66.

The final quarter was a tough battle with 2 players from each team taking to the bench after picking up their fifth fouls. Keanes fought hard throughout the quarter to a tiring Maree but with Keanes constantly chasing they couldn’t narrow the gap beyond 9 points until the final minute.
