-

COMMUNITY groups and sports club in Tralee, Killarney and north Kerry are set to benefit from a €615,000 funding package agreed by three of Kerry County Council’s four Municipal Districts.

In the last week the Tralee, Killarney and Listowel Municipal Districts published details of the 220 community organisations and clubs that have been approved for funding under the district’s Community Support Funds.

In Tralee a total of €238,000 will be shared out between 72 groups and clubs. In Killarney, 79 groups will share in €244,000 in funding. In the Listowel Municipal District €133,000 is to be divided among 69 groups.

Details of funding in the South and West Kerry Municipal District will be confirmed in the coming days.

The Community Support Fund – which is now in its third year – has supported over 700 projects across the county to the value of €1.5million.

Those supported over the past two years include community groups, sports clubs, residents’ committees, Tidy Towns groups, Chamber Alliances and other organisations across the four Municipal Districts in Kerry.

A portion of the fund is being retained in each Municipal District to provide matching funding for previously approved LEADER projects that “have a broad community gain associated with them.”
