The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Irish Cancer Society to run by Dingle Marathon’s side
THE Irish Cancer Society has said it is ‘delighted’ to be involved with The Kerryman Dingle Marathon 2017 as the official charity partner to the famous races.
The September 2 races are regarded amongst the most scenic in the world, and Irish Cancer Society Head of Fundraising Mark Mellett hopes participants will make ‘every step count’ for the charity.“In 2017, some 40,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Ireland,” he said. “We’re determined to support these people by providing information, care and support.
“We do this through practical services like the Volunteer Drive service - which transported 33 Kerry Patients to chemotherapy appointments in 2016 - and our Night Nursing, which supported 77 people in the county last year.”
To provide these services, the Irish Cancer Society depends on public fundraising. If you want to run, jog, or walk for the Irish Cancer Society at The Kerryman Dingle Marathon, you can CallSave 1850 60 60 60, or email fundraising@irishcancer. ie for more information and a fundraising pack.
The Kerryman Dingle Marathon comprises two events: a 13.1-mile Half Marathon, and a Full Marathon traversing the enchanting Dingle Peninsula.
Since it was inaugurated in 2009, the races have carved out a towering reputation. The Kerryman Dingle Half Marathon won the ‘Half Marathon of the Year’ prize at the Racing in Ireland Race Awards in 2016, its second successive win in this category. The Kerryman Dingle Marathon was also named last year as one of the 52 best races in the world by the renowned ‘Runner’s World Magazine.
To be a part of the action, you can register online before midnight, August 24, though early registration is encouraged in case as the races sell out quickly
Registration costs €59 for the Half Marathon, and €69 for the Full Marathon.
