Quality of medical care in Kerry is admired by doctors in England

-

SIR, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to staff at University Hospital Kerry for the wonderful care I received.

Whilst on holiday, visiting my family in Dungeel, Killorglin, in September 2016, I became ill. Dr Cotter was called to see me and following his advice, I was taken straight to the Accident and Emergency Department at UHK.

From the moment I arrived at A&E, the care I received was second to none. The doctors quickly diagnosed that I had suffered a heart attack and I was admitted to the Skellig Ward. The support and treatment I received in each part of the hospital was prompt and outstanding, and I felt confident and assured at each stage of my treatment.

I would also like to thank the fantastic ambulance crew who took me to Limerick Hospital for my angiogram; their sense of caring and humour was just what I needed at a very difficult time. The staff at Limerick Hospital, who carried out the angiogram, were very professional and reassuring.

When I returned to Tralee and was well enough to travel back to the UK, everything I needed was taken care of. All the information my own doctor would require was copied and made available to me. Upon my return home, I was re-admitted to my local hospital, and the heart specialist I saw was extremely complimentary about the care and treatment I had received in Ireland. I have now been transferred to Harefield Hospital in the UK, who again were impressed with the prompt diagnosis and treatment I had received.

I would like to finish by again expressing my gratitude to Dr Cotter from Killorglin, and all the staff at UHK and Limerick hospital. They should be very proud of what they do. Finally, I would like to my sincere thanks to all my staff involved with my treatment. Sincerely, James and Mary Sweeney, Luton, Bedfordshire.
