- BY JOHN O’LEARY

CREDIT Union Senior Football and Hurling Leagues are launched THE 2017 Credit Union senior football and hurling leagues were launched in Killarney Credit Union on Monday evening. For the 15th year, the leagues will be sponsored by Chapter 23 of the Irish League of Credit Unions which encompasses all of Kerry and West Limerick.

Speaking at the launch, Chapter 23 chairman John Long, stated that “the Credit Union movement is a vibrant community based financial co-operative that supports and serves the financial needs of its members, (many of whom are also GAA members), throughout Kerry & Ireland. The Credit Unions share the same common ethos as Kerry GAA, of Community spirit and indeed voluntary service, and both are at the heart of many community successes. I believe that both organisations have played & continue to play a huge role in making the Island of Ireland what it is today,” he concluded.

Kerry county GAA committee Tim Murphy thanked Chapter 23 for their continued support and said that the Leagues were the envy of many counties. “It is no coincidence that Kerry Clubs are so successful at Junior and Intermediate club championship level given the experience they have gained by competing with the best clubs in the county in the county leagues” he said.
