Way is clear for Scór na bPaisti county semi-finals

WITH all District Boards now having completed their competitio­ns during the past few weeks the way is now clear for the next step of the journey and this weekend sees the eagerly awaited County semi-finals of Scor na bPaisti for National School children taking place at two different venues.

It is expected that all nine Districts Boards will be competing: North Kerry Football, North Kerry Hurling, South Kerry, Kenmare District, East Kerry, Castleisla­nd District, West Kerry, Mid Kerry and Tralee/St. Brendans

First up on this Saturday March 11 in the Presentati­on Secondary School, Castleisla­nd will see participan­ts from the north of the county battle it out for a place in the finals and here we will have clubs from West Kerry, Tralee St. Brendans, North Kerry Football, North Kerry Hurling and Castleisla­nd District taking part starting at 3pm.

On Sunday at Killarney Racecourse, the four District Boards from the south of the county - Mid Kerry, East Kerry, South Kerry and Kenmare District - will be all out to show their many talents starting at 2pm.

Two from each discipline Figure Dancing, Solo Singing, Recitation, Ballad Group, Leiriu, Instrument­al Music, Sean Nos Dancing and Set Dancing from both semi-finals will qualify for the County Finals to be staged in the Foilmore Community Centre on Sunday March 26 at 2pm

The Quiz has changed at District Board level and now all clubs taking part in the four team County Table Quiz will go ahead on the morning of the County Scor na bPaisti Finals. Those competing should have their names and register numbers returned by email to the County Secretary, Suzanne O’Leary on or before Monday March 13 to secretary.scor.kerry@gaa.ie.

The venue has yet to be confirmed but will be held at 11am on March 26 along with the Scor na bPaisti Finals.

Scór Sinsear

Munster Finals Saturday April 8th at Cappamore, County Limerick; 6pm. Kerry will be represente­d in all seven categories at the event. Clubs representi­ng Tipperary, Cork, Limerick and Waterford will provide tough opposition to the Kingdom.

Already through to the All Ireland Finals are Rathmore in the Quiz - Donie O’Leary, John S O’Sullivan, Dan V O’Connor and Tony Moynihan - former All-Ireland holders who qualified at the Estuary Print sponsored County Finals.

Due to the change in the format of the Question Time the outright winner in each county go directly through to the All Ireland Finals to be held in the Waterfront Theatre, Belfast on Saturday May 6 where all 32 counties will battle it out as to who will be crowned Quiz All Ireland champions for 2017.
