The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Weather plays havoc with Kingdom Challenge Shields
THE terrible weather of late continues to play havoc with the Kingdom Challenge Shields with little or no action again over the past two weekends.
However, there were some matches completed in the Senior Shield where in Round one, Castlegregory caused something of a shock in beating the holders Waterville, Tralee beat Ballybunion, Castleisland beat Killarney and Ballyheigue who were meant to play Killorglin have withdrawn.
So the complete draw for round two which must be completed by March 19 is: Ross versus Kenmare (both teams had byes in round one), Dooks (who also had a bye) play Castlegregory, Killorglin (who received a walk-over from Ballyheigue) will play the winners of the first round match between Ring of Kerry and Ceann Sibeal and finally, Castleisland will take on Tralee.
In the Intermediate Shield, all but two of the first-round matches were completed but none of the second games which were due to be completed by Sunday last were played.
In round one, Killarney beat Tralee and will now meet the holders Waterville who beat Ross. Killorglin beat Parknasilla and now wait the winners of the Ring of Kerry versus Dooks match from Round One.
Ballybunion beat Castlegregory and now await the winners of the Round One match between Beaufort and Castleisland while Ballyheigue beat Ceann Sibeal and now face Kenmare who beat Castlerosse.
As previously mentioned, Round Two was meant to be completed by Sunday last but with two round one matches still outstanding it is rather unlikely that the semi-finals scheduled for March 26 and the final scheduled for April 9 will now be completed on time.
