COMMUNITY GAMES

Last Sunday was the County Finals of the Swimming competition, held in Tralee and we had a mixture of first timers, young and experienced swimmers in this event. In the morning three girls, Abby O’Leary and Shauna McCarthy entered the U10 front crawl and Shauna’s sister Michelle (her first time in a swimming competition) swam in the backstroke event. All three girls swam very well and we would like to thank them for competiting in this competition. Abby won her heat well and progressed to her semi final but narrowly missed a chance to swim in the final. We look forward to seeing them all back again next year.

The afternoon paved the way for the older children and commenced with Ross O’Leary, who has won medals in this event on more than one occasion. Ross swam in the U14 backstroke and won first place in a very exciting close finish. We would like to congratulate Ross who will now go on to swim in Dublin in May at the All Ireland Finals. His brother Paudie also a past winner in this event, won his heat in the U16 front crawl shortly afterwards and then pulled off a great win, in his final, second gold medal on the day.

A great achievement for both boys, as they are a young age this year, for both their categories.

Congratulations also to our other medalist of the day, Donal Daly who won Silver for his area in the U16 butterfly event, a great achievement for Donal , also an acomplished swimmer. A big thank you to all the families for travelling to Tralee on Sunday and just to wish Paudie and Ross the very best of luck at the All Ireland finals in May.
