LANGFORD STREET TRAFFIC

Councillor Michael Cahill has called on Kerry County Council, Transport Infrastruc­ture Ireland, An Garda Siochana and the Kerry ETB to immediatel­y jointly address the following issues in the vicinity of Scamps and Scholars, Killorglin Sports Complex and the Community College, Langford St. Killorglin: (a) traffic calming measures, (b) car parking (C) school bus drop off /pick up point on Health and Safety grounds.

The Fianna Fail Councillor who highlighte­d the matter at a recent meeting of the South and West Kerry Municipal District said This is a most serious matter; this is an accident waiting to happen. There are hundreds of children, students and adults attending these facilities and you also have FEXCO in close proximity. If action is not taken quickly someone will be seriously injured or killed . Following Councillor Cahill’s request, it was agreed that a meeting will be arranged with the respective parties.

IVERAGH PARK

At a recent meeting of the South and West Kerry Municipal District, Councillor Michael Cahill called for major improvemen­t works to be carried out in Iveragh Park. Councillor Cahill moved the following Notice of Motion .

Cllr. M Cahill: That Kerry County Council immediatel­y address the following issues in Iveragh Park Housing estate Killorglin, the second largest estate in South Kerry by (a) address the condition of footpaths (b) the provision of ramps to slow down cars (c) provision of additional public lighting (d) the provision of a new lawn mower (e) the issue of longer delays exiting the estate (f) address the unacceptab­le issues of dog fouling within the estate.

BOI ENTERPRISE TOWN

Bank of Ireland Killorglin Enterprise Town is back! The event, which has been a huge success over the past 2 years, returns to Killorglin Sports Complex this Friday, 10th March, from 5 to 7pm. Guest speaker on the night will be Daithí Ó Sé, and entertainm­ent will be provided by Killorglin Pipe Band, and the Killorglin Men’s Choir. There will be over 100 exhibitors from local businesses, community groups, schools and sports clubs. The event is free to attend, and promises to be a great opportunit­y for young and old to network and have a bit of craic! So, please come along and support this important event in our town!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you have a spare hour around midday on any day of the week, you could help us help others in the community by delivering Meals on Wheels. BOWLING

A game that everyone can play- regardless of age, gender or experience!

Come along to the GAA grounds in Glenbeigh every Thursday from 1.45 -- 4pm. All equipment provided, hot drinks and great fun for all!

Or you can join us at the Killorglin Sports Centre every Tuesday from 1.30-3.30pm -- beginners welcome at both clubs!

KILLORGLIN BINGO

In CYMS every Sunday night, starting 8.30pm. Doors open 8pm. Johnny will be calling the numbers as usual, while you scratch.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

The Saint Patrick’s Day in Killorglin 2017 will be on Friday the 17th of March. The Parade will begin at 1pm SHARP at The Fishery and end At Library Place where there will be entertainm­ent for all ages! Music with Flight of the Earls. We are always looking for new people to join our parade - Floats, Walking groups or individual­s :) Green is the colour of the day and If possible Please have some music on your float :)

DRAMA

A comedy ‘It runs in the family’ by Ray Cooney will be performed in the CYMS on Wed 22nd, Thurs 23rd, Fri 24th Wed 29th Thurs 30th and Fri 31st March. Bookings to 9762053. Doors open 7pm. Show 8pm.

CCE NEWS

Congratula­tions to Niamh Dinham on winning second place in U13 Fiddle at Sult naÓg last weekend. Congratula­tions also to our junior set dancers who were competing in their first competitio­n and came 2nd in the ladies U13 set. Good luck to our instrument­al group and figure dancers who will compete at the weekend in the next round of Scor an bPaisti.

Best of luck to the Laune Rangers Figure Dancers and Instrument­al Music Group who will compete in the Kerry South Semi Final in the Racecourse Killarney on Sunday next 12th March.

KERRY HOSPICE

The Killorglin Hospice Committee would like to Congratula­te Ted Moynihan, Chairpman of Kerry Hospice who was awarded Kerry Person of the Year last weekend. Ted received the award in recognitio­n of the major contributi­on he has made to Kerry Hospice Foundation over the past 20 years.

The Killorglin Hospice Branch are holding their AGM this Fri March 10th at St Michaels Hall. In advance of the meeting at 7.30pm Dr Tom McCormack & Ted Moynihan will attend to update us on the New Pallative Care Unit and Kerry Hospice. This is an ideal opportunit­y for you to hear at first hand how the money raised by the hospice is being used and raise any queries you may have. The Committee are so appreciati­ve of everyone who supports the Hospice in any way so we encourage people to come along for just 30 minutes- or so have a coffee and get an update from Dr McCormack & Ted Moynihan and to understand the work of the Hospice Foundation.

The AGM will commence after the Talk but please note you are not obliged to stay for the meeting.
