Monday night next March 13t is the date for the next Rambling House session in The Silabh Luachra Cultural and Heritage Centre in Scartaglen. Starting time as usual will be 8.30pm and admission is free. There will be a raffle and refreshments on the night. Everyone is welcome.
CONFIRMATION
There will be a Confirmation Enrolment and Pledge Ceremony during the 10.30am mass in Scartglen on Sunday next with Scartaglen National School confirmation children.
COLLECTION
This weekends church gate collection will be the Dioceasn collection in aid of emigrant services. Your support would be appreciated.
HANDED DOWN
“The Changing Styles of Paddy Cronin” presented by Liam O Connor, Dublin Our March Handed Down features an all star line up and the subject being the late Paddy Cronin of Gneeveguilla widely acknowledged as one of Ireland’s greatest fiddle players. We are delighted to welcome back to Scartaglin Gradam Cheoil winner Liam O Connor the brilliant Dublin fiddle player.
Liam’s presentation will look at the way Paddy’s playing evolved from his playing after learning from Padraig O Keeffe to emigrating to the USA and coming under the influence of the Sligo tradition . This will include audio and video footage of an interview Liam made with Paddy in 2012.
Our guests on the night are the great Master box player and radio presenter Danny O Mahony Trio Padraig Moynihan Denis O Connor and Con Moynihan Young Musicians “Strings” from North Cork with their teacher Emer Twomey Songs with Oireachtas winner Nollaig Ni Laoire . We start at 8pm sharp
( Nollaig Ni Laoire has Scartaglin connections as all her family competed at Scart Feile Cheoil when visiting her uncle Jerry who lived in the village married to Joan Tangney ) Strings will play at 8 pm sharp and there are 25 of them on fiddle and will play for 20 mins a set comprising of music associated with Paddy Cronin’s recordings.
DEATH
The death occurred last weekend of Michael (Mick) O Connor of Mount. The late Mick had been ill for some time. The deceased worked for many years with the ESB and was a good footballer in his younger days, playing most of his football with Cordal. He is survived by his wife Mai, sons and daughters, by his sister Hannah Mai and by his brother Jim. The late Mick was laid to rest in Scartaglen Cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.
AFTERNOON OF PRAYER
The next Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglin will be on Sunday March 19th when John Delaney will be present. The Rosary will start the prayer afternoon at 2.30pm. Everyone welcome.

KERRY DRAMA FESTIVAL
The 30th Kerry Drama Festival is presently taking place in the Ivy Leaf Art Centre Castleisland from Friday March 3rd to Saturday March 11th (both dates inclusive). Among the plays being staged are “Cripple in Innismaan” by Martin McDonagh ( The Corofin Dramatic Society) on Saturday March 4th. “Hedda Gaffer” by Henrik Ibson (Kilrush Drama Group) on Tuesday March 7th and the Field by John B. Keane (Amphitheatre Company) on Saturday March 11th. Shows are nightly at 8pm. Admission Adults €10, Concession €8. Bookings to (086) 1054515
HUNTING FESTIVAL REPORT
The Abbeyfeale Harriers 2017 Hunting Festival has concluded for another year. Hunt clubs from Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Armagh, Tyrone and Wexford participated in the weeks hunting. Hunt supporters from all over Ireland and beyond enjoyed the weeks sport and socialising at this annual get together. A donation has been made to the Irish Cancer Society.
The Abbeyfeale Harriers would like to give a special thanks to all those that supported the hunt festival including * The clubs that participated * The hunt followers who came from all over Ireland and beyond * The publicans who kindly sponsored the food after each hunt * The Scartaglin Harriers for hosting the hunt meet in Scartaglin * And most importantly to the farmers and landowners in the areas that were hunted and who have always been very supportive. All of your support is greatly appreciated.
