Fossa edge out Spa by the minimum in round four clash

SAFEGUARD SECURITY EAST KERRY SENIOR LEAGUE – ROUND 4 Spa 0-8 Fossa 0-9

THIS was the only game in the Safeguard Security East Kerry Senior League that survived the wet weather conditions which caused the cancellati­on of the Division 2 Final and three other Division 1 games, due to unplayable pitches.

Played in Fossa Old Field, the sides were level on three points a piece at the break. Scoring was close again in the second half. Fossa created goal chances including a penalty shot. The home side won by the minimum on a final score of Fossa 0-9 Spa 0-8.

THE East Kerry Scór na nÓg Finals, sponsored by Killarney Credit Union, took place in Killarney Racecourse Auditorium on Friday March 3.

With great talent on display and after a wonderful evenings entertainm­ent, the judges had a very difficult task to choose winners. Well done to all the participan­ts who did their families and clubs proud. Bhí sibh thar barr.

After much deliberati­on the results were as follows: First Placed: Kilcummin- Figure Dancing (Caoimhe O’Halloran, Sadbh O’Halloran, Sarah Pigott, Alison Pigott, Eimear O’Sullivan, Maeve O’Connor, Doireann Dwyer and Michale Healy, Gneeveguil­la - Sean Nós Dancing Sean O’Keeffe), Killarney Legion- Ballad Group (Jack McCrohan, Evie Fahy, Lucy Spellman, Lucy Jane O Gara, Oránne Mc Gilliguddy) and Recitation (Áine Devlin), Dr Crokes - Set Dancing (Sarah Mc Carthy, TJ O Sullivan, Ryan Bartlett, Leah Mc Mahon, Sinéad Oliver, Dara O Brien, Ella Bartlett nd jack Maguire) Glenflesk - Instrument­al Music (Ben Ó Switzer, Muireann Ní DhairsighE­ilís Ní Mhaoláin, Éabha Ní Ruddain, Jeaic Ó Ruddáín), Solo Singing (Gearoid Healy) and Best Overall Club.

East Kerry Vice Chairman Johnny Brosnan thanked those who helped to make it such a memorable event. He thanked the outstandin­g Bean an Tí Áine Sheehan and East Kerry Scór Officer Amy Reidy, David Ray, Sean Leahy (Sound).

He compliment­ed and thanked all the Competitor­s, Parents, Teachers, Schools and also Club Scór Officers. Johnny thanked the adjudicato­rs, Dermot Coffey (door) and the Stewards Threasa Kissane and Danni Reidy. Finally Johnny thanked sponsor Killarney Credit Union and their Chairman Pat Delaney.

Workshop

GAELIC 15 warm up took place in St Brendan’s College on Monday night for all club coaches in East Kerry/ Kenmare clubs.

The coaching session was well attended with sixteen clubs represente­d on the night. Niall O’Mahony (Spa) delivered the practical session with all club coaches present taking an active role on the night.

Gaelic 15 warm up was given to all club coaches in attendance with East Kerry GDA Vince Cooper sending all coaching officers the session making sure that GAA best practise is implemente­d in each club in the division.

Post Primary Schools

POBAIL Scoil Sliabh Luachra, Rathmore defeated Colaiste Ide agus Iosef Mainister na Féile in the Munster U16.5 B football in Brosna.

The game was played on a fantastic surface considerin­g the poor weather conditions. Scoring freely in attack the Rathmore school secured a well deserved victory on the day. The semi-final is fixed for Wednesday, March 15.

Best of luck to St Brendan’s Col- lege Under 16.5 team in the Munster A football final on Wednesday. The Killarney school team will start as underdogs against a Dingle school team that defeated the Sem lads already this year.

This game has the makings of a great final with the St Brendans College panel needing to fire on all cylinders to get a result in this decider.
