Killorglin play in memory of dear friend Ger

- By STEPHEN FERNANE

KILLORGLIN CYMS Players are gearing up for one final run of what’s billed as ‘total slapstick’ which has so far played to huge numbers and received standing ovations each night.

The local drama group performs ‘It Runs in the Family’ which is written by Ray Cooney and set in a London Hospital. The play tells the story of Dr Mortimore who is about to give the ‘lecture of the year’ when a lady visitor from his past arrives with news that there’s a young man – the product of their affair some years earlier – waiting outside to be introduced to his father.

The farce centres on the consequences of Dr Mortimore’s antics while trying to avoid acknowledging his son – which will have the audience laughing from start to finish.

They say timing is everything in theatre and this production is a rollercoaster with non-stop action throughout. The CYMS players have produced a number of slapstick plays over the years, all of which have received amazing reactions from audiences.

This play was first performed by the group in 2007 and many of the same cast are again taking to the stage.

But sadly the group lost its dear friend, Ger Foley, who died just 12 months ago.

Indeed, it’s in his memory that Killorglin CYMS has decided to take to the stage again with this production for a second time.

Directed by Breda Falvey and ably assisted by Mary Gallagher and James O’Riordan, the play runs for its final three performances on March 29, 30 and 31 in the CYMS Hall, Killorglin.

Curtains are up at 8pm. Contact the booking office on 066 9762053. Or get tickets at the door on the night. Unreserved seating doors open at 7pm and tickets are €12.
