Kerry Hospice set to benefit from the ‘Good Friday Walk’

- By STEPHEN FERNANE

IT’S time to dust down the walking shoes and get ready for the annual Kerry Hospice ‘Good Friday Walk’ which takes place on April 14 at 10am starting at the Grand Hotel. The walk is extremely popular and is for a very worthy cause, especially now the new hospice building – which costs €6.3 million – is nearing completion and is expected to be open by the end of the summer.

The route takes in roughly 10km making its way to Lohercannon and Blennerville before taking a left at the top of the village towards St Pats Gaa pitch. From here the walk takes the road to Ballydunlea and down past Tralee Rugby Club, continuing down Ballyard Hill and back to Tralee. There will also be some refreshments in The Grand Hotel following the walk.

“This is a big fundraiser for the Kerry Hospice and is one of many walks taking place around the county. It’s all thanks to the great work of Kerry Hospice Volunteers and the many people who support and donate to the cause on a daily basis,” said Andrea O’Donoghue.

She added. “The Kerry Hospice Foundation have pledged to raise €400,000 every year for the next 5 years which will go towards the upkeep of the new building and the current Palliative Care unit. The Good Friday walk is a great start to the Easter Break and everyone is welcome.”
