- Jack Hennessy

SCÓR competitions within the county came to a conclusion at the Foilmore Community Centre on Sunday last for the staging of the 2017 Scór Na bPaisti County Finals which took place before a huge and appreciative audience with 137 competitors taking to the stage.

Certainly the standard of competition was of a very high level and this is down to the trojan work done by all the many organisers of the competitions through their Scór officers and tutors throughout the county at club level with the wealth of talent that was on display at the finals.

The day got off to an early start with the quiz opening the proceedings at the Intermediate School Killorglin which began at the earlier time of 11am and at the end of a titanic battle it was St. Senans who were crowned winners.

However, there was a tie for second place between Tousist and Glenflesk with the latter taking second spot. Then it was on the Foilmore for the remainder of the programme with Aine Ni Siochain, Bean A Tí for the occasion.

The Solo Singing winner was Liam Evans, Keel and in second place came Shane O’Sullivan from St Senans, and here it was a special day for the Keel club representing the Mid Kerry Football Board when they scooped the Solo Singing and came second in the Recitation and to add to a memorable occasion for the club they received the Estuary Print and Trophies sponsored Siobhain Cotter Memorial Shield for the best overall club on the day.

The Figure Dancing went to Kilcummin with Causeway as runners up, while the County Champions in Set Dancing went to Dromid Pearses with Currow claiming second place.

Coiste Scór Chiarrai Chairperson, Leona Twiss thanked everybody for their participation in Scór, our kind sponsors and especially the Cotter family who donated the Overall Trophy in honour of the late Siobhan who was the brainchild of this competition.

She was also loud in his praise of a fantastic venue in South Kerry. Vice Chairman of Coiste Scór Chiarrai, Jackie Walsh presented all the winners and runners-up with their medals and a presentation was also made to an excellent Bean A Ti, Aine Ni Shiochain.
