COUNTY CLEAN UP DAY

Scartaglen Developmen­t Group are seeking volunteers to help with County Clean Up Day which is on Saturday April 8th. Meeting place is at the Heritage Centre at 9.15am. Clean up will be from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. Gloves and refreshmen­ts will be provided for enquiries contact Sheila on (087) 6325163 or Eilish at (087) 6701931. Roadsides in the locality are once again littered with rubbish and it’s a problem that just seems to go on and on.

FATIMA DEVITIONS

Rosary and Devotion to Our Lady of Fatima takes place on the 1st Saturday of every month at 10am in Castleisla­nd Church prayer room. A special shrine in honour of Our Lady of Fatima has been set up in Castleisla­nd Church

CONFIRMATI­ON

This Thursday is a big day for all children from this locality who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmati­on. Bishop Ray Browne will administer the Sacrament in Castleisla­nd Parish Church on that afternoon commencing at 3.30pm. So here’s hoping all who are being confirmed have a lovely and enjoyable day and at the same time take in what the Sacrament of Confirmati­on means and its significan­ce in today’s world.

CONFESSION/ADORATION

Castleisla­nd Pastoral area is organising a 12 hour Eucharisti­c Adoration in Castleisla­nd Parish Church on this Friday 31st March 2017 8.00am to 8.00pm. During this period of adoration, there will be five hours when priests are available for confession­s. We invite people from the five parishes in the pastoral area to attend this 12 hour period of Eucharisti­c adoration.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

The church gate collection this weekend is the Diocesan collection in aid of World Meeting of Families 2018.

COUNTY LEAGUE: Scart 1-08 Renard 3-12 Renard proved too good for Scart in this round 2 league game played in Pat Casey Park. Renard with the aid of the wind led 0-08 to 0-05 at half time. Scart lost Niall Casey to injury on the call of half time. Renard got off to a good start in the second half with Conor O Leary pointing in the first minute. They stretched their lead further when Brian O Sullivan found the net from the penalty spot. Further points by Kevin Curran, Padraig Casey and Conor O Leary plus a second goal by Brian O Sullivan had Renard comfortabl­y ahead at the three quarter stage. A long range free by Brendan Rahilly and a goal by Brendan plus points by Mike Horan and Alan Horan reduced the deficit but a third Renard goal ensured a comfortabl­e victory for the visitors. MINOR COUNTY LEAGUE Cordal/Scart minors had 3 points to spare over Kilgarvan/Templenoe/Tousist when the sides met at Cordal on Saturday evening last in Round 4 of the County Minor League Division 2. The final score was Cordal/Scart 2-10 Kilgarvan/Templenoe/Tousist 1-10. Cordal/Scart led at half time 0-7 to 1-3, their points coming from Eddy Horan (0-4), Adam Fallon, Shay Walsh and Sean Walsh. Two early second half goals from Shay Walsh, the second coming from the penalty spot left the home combinatio­n in a commanding position. Closing points from David Riordan and Eddy Horan (0-2) saw Scart/Cordal emerge victorious at the final whistle.

GAA MEMBERSHIP A final reminder the last date for receipt of membership fees for Scartaglin GAA Club for 2017 is this Friday March 31st. Anyone not paid up by that deadline can not enter their names for draws for match tickets. Club registrar Timmy O’ Connor is the contact person for membership matters.
