THE benefits of encouraging your child to partake in Easter activities is one that has many benefits for both children and parents alike. Rather than allowing kids to just spend their free time this Easter eating chocolate eggs in front of the TV, get them out and active by enrolling them in whatever it is that’s taking place in the community.

There’s loads happening over Easter for kids and now is a good time to start planning. ‘Total Football Camps’ takes place at the John Mitchels Sports Complex and Fossa NS in Killarney. These clinics cater for primary school children aged 6-12 years old and they provide children with the opportunity to learn new skills and develop self-confidence by playing football for two or three consecutive days in a non-competitive environment. For more information visit: www. totalfootball.ie

The Killarney National Park Education Centre is running special environmental classes over the Easter break and if your child has a love for nature, this is the activity for them. The class is packed with exciting activities from pond-dipping to campfire cooking, bug-hunts to den building, mammal trapping to scavenger hunts. All activities are fully supervised by very experienced Garda vetted staff in the beautiful and safe surroundings of the Knockreer Demesne. Further south in Kenmare there’s a chance for your child to do some horse riding at the Eclipse Centre in Kenmare, and many more fun activities throughout the day which includes breakfast and lunch. There’s no better way to spend the day than in the great outdoors on horseback. For more info email: info@eclipseireland.com. Phone: 087 923 8795.

At Tralee Sports Complex there’s an excellent opportunity for your child to learn how to swim. The Complex run a very successful Easter Summing Camp which not only teaches your child the important life skill of swimming, but will also give them confidence and enhance their social interaction. If you have a budding musician or performer in the family then it might be worth giving The Kerry School of Music a call. They usually run short introductory Easter courses that are both fun and affordable for children aged 4-14. For more info call: 066 7125690/7120077.

There’s plenty of fun activities this Easter across Kerry from pet shows and face painting to puppet shows and craft shows, it’s just a matter of finding the right one for your child. Be sure to check out the activities near you.

Easter is only as entertaining as you make it so why not visit a nearby sporting event, a waterpark, the cinema, visit family and friends, a museum or local exhibition, visit the local Garden Centre and get kids interested in the joys of planting flowers! Whatever your child does this Easter, just make sure they make the most of it.
