SMOKE ALARMS
Councillor Michael Cahill has called on Kerry County Council and the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government to provide smoke alarms in all houses of the elderly and the disabled throughout the county free of charge. The Fianna Fail Councillor who raised the matter at a meeting of the South and West Kerry Municipal District said “it has been proved time and time again that smoke alarms save lives.” The Local Councillor called on the Government to introduce a scheme as a matter of priority.
Cllr. M Cahill: “That Kerry County Council and Dept of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government provide smoke alarms in all houses of the elderly and the disabled throughout the county free of charge.”
Reply: The Housing Department has carried out a planned programme with regard to the installation and upgrading of smoke alarms in all our properties in 2016. With regard to a scheme of financial support for the provision of smoke alarms to privately owned houses for the elderly and disabled this is a matter for central Government.
