SRAITH SINSIR CHIARRAÍ ROUND 2 PIARSAIGH NA DROMODA 2.13 LAUNE RANGERS 0.13 Given the great footballing weather , a big turnout of Dromid supporters was guaranteed for their first home game. The Pearses set out their stall from the off with a point from Dilan Ó Donchadha who gave a man of the match performance. Two further points from Críostóir Ó Faircheallaigh was the result from good team play and distribution from Kerry under 21’s player Graham Ó Súilleabháin. Niall Ó Sé and Ó Faircheallaigh worked well together up front and they pulled off the first goal of the match giving them a comfortable lead. The visitors kept their heads up and notched up well taken points throughout the first half with David Costelloe proving to be constant threat despite good marshalling from young Shane Ó Conchubhair. The opportunity to stretch the lead for Dromid was when they were awarded a penalty but goalkeeper Tony Lyons saved the day and the visitors still remained within sight of their opponents. The half time score was Dromid’s 1.08 to Laune Rangers 0.06 With a relatively strong wind prevailing in the second half together with stern words from both Managements at half time, it was all to play for. Rangers free taker Colm O’ Shea was first to score from a free and five more scores were clocked up from frees with only one further point coming from play. Dromid used their subs to good effect and they kept the pressure on. The introduction of Mike Frank Russell and John Sheahan was not the answer to LR’s prayers as Dromid’s Niall O Se added to the scoreboard regularly thoughout the second half to keep their six point margin in tact when required. It was a well-balanced team performance by all of the twenty or so players who played today. The final score was Piarsaigh na Dromoda 2.13 to Laune Rangers 0.13. Eddie Barrett of Knocknagoshel was the referee and acquitted himself well during the sixth five minutes of play. Next weekend will see another home game against Valentia in the South Kerry League. Round 3 will be away to Fossa on Sunday 9th April.
