SENIOR MEN: Round Two of the County Senior Football League took place on Sunday afternoon as Laune Rangers travelled south to Dromid Pearses in what was the Killorglin side’s first game away from JP O’Sullivan Park this year. Dromid were at full strength and bolstered by the inclusion of Kerry Under 21 squad member Graham O’Sullivan. Laune Rangers, however, were missing a number of key players including Peter Crowley (playing with Kerry in Cavan), Shane McSweeney (suspended) & Maurice Foley (injured). Dromid started well and were two points ahead after as many minutes through Dilan O’Donoghue and Chris Farley. Connor Clarke pointed excellently to get Rangers off the mark before David Costelloe saw his shot at goal saved well by Pearses’ goalkeeper Brian O’Leary. Colm O’Shea pointed a free to level the scores, before pointing a fisted effort to cancel out a Chris Farley point for Pearses. Dromid found the net in the 12th minute through a good finish by Chris Farley, and almost doubled their advantage a minute later when they were awarded a penalty. However, Tony Lyons saved well in the Rangers goal to keep Dromid’s lead at 1-3 to 0-3 with a quarter of the game played. Dilan O’Donoghue and John Tyther traded points before Dromid extended their lead, scoring four unanswered with points from Graham O’Sullivan, Chris Farley (2, 1 free) & Dilan O’Donoghue putting the hosts ahead by seven in the 24th minute. Connor Clarke added a second well taken point and Colm O’Shea added a free before the short whistle. The score at Half Time:- Dromid Pearses 1-8, Laune Rangers 0-6. Laune Rangers made three changes at Half Time, bringing in John Sheehan, Shane Mangan & Patrick Carey. The visitors added two Colm O’Shea frees to reduce the deficit before -- somewhat against the run of play -- Dromid followed up a Niall O’Shea point with a goal from Dilan O’Donoghue to restore their earlier seven point lead. Colm O’Shea pointed another free for Rangers, before Niall O’Shea saw a shot at goal saved well by Tony Lyons in the Rangers goal to leave Dromid Pearses ahead by 2-9 to 0-9 with a quarter of the game to go. Laune Rangers’ next attack saw the ball hit the net through John Tyther as David Costelloe had rounded the goalkeeper, but the whistle had been blown as the referee had adjudged an advantage was not accrued before Laune Rangers hit the net. Colm O’Shea pointed the resulting free before Dilan O’Donoghue cancelled it out with a point from play. Time was running out for Rangers and they pushed forward in search of a goal, allowing Niall O’Shea to add another two points for Dromid. Colm O’Shea added another free -- his 8th point of the day -- and John Sheehan’s free kick glanced over the crossbar when it looked destined for the top corner. The Full Time whistle was blown to see the home side win on a Full Time score of:- Dromid Pearses 2-13, Laune Rangers 0-13. Rangers will rue some missed chances on the day as Dromid were clinical in their shooting. Chris Farley, Niall O’Shea and Dilan O’Donoghue contributed all but one of Dromid’s scores, while Graham O’Sullivan added the other point and was excellent at midfield. David Costelloe, while not getting on the scoreboard himself, was dangerous throughout and played a part in most of Rangers’ scores. Connor Clarke also played well for Rangers, while the second half substitute Patrick Carey linked up well with his brother Johnny, & Eamon Carey’s introduction saw all three Carey brothers on the field together for the first time. Incidentally, Mike Frank Russell made his first appearance in nearly a year as he recovers from injury. Laune Rangers next game in the County League is another away game in South Kerry, as they play St Michael’s/Foilmore in Foilmore on the weekend of April 9th.
