COAST GUARD STATION

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny inspected a Guard Of Honour of the Irish Coast Guard under the command of Danny Breen when he arrived in Waterville on a glorious day on March 27th for the official opening of Iveragh Coast Guard Station.

A minute silence was observed and a condolence book signed by all in memory of the four brave people lost in Blacksod Bay. Mr Eugene Clonan IRCG welcomed guests and locals to this auspicious occasion and wished Officer In Charge Tony Donnelly a long and happy retirement after 35 years of dedicated service. Tony thanked all who worked with on the project, all members serving and retired as well as his employers and family.

The Coast Guard Prayer was recited. Fr Martin Sheehan P.P. and Rev Rogers blessed the new station. Enda Kenny unveiled the plaque and Clare Horgan led the large crowd in Amhran na bhFiann. Refreshments were served by Fiona of An Corcan and her staff. We all wish Tony many happy years and good luck to in coming Officer In Charge John Dowd of Tarmons.
