DIVISION TWO

KILLARNEY Legion hold the advantage after the opening three rounds with their unbeaten start after they overcame a tough challenge from fellow East Kerry side Kilcummin on Saturday by 0-15 to 1-10. The visitors had hit the post and missed a penalty while Legion drew a fine save out of Kieran Fleming at the other end, but a strong finish to the final 10 minutes of the first period gave Legion a lead of 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time. Noel Duggan’s goal put Kilcummin right back in contention but Legion held firm in securing their two point win with Shaun Keane clearing a dangerous late free to ensure their win and a clear two point lead at the top of the table.

Five sides are below them on four points, Spa, Kenmare Shamrocks and Beaufort all registering high scoring totals in being amongst that pack.

Spa scored three second half goals to record a 13-point win away to Listowel Emmets after Craig Hickey’s first-half goal had given them an interval lead of 1-7 to 0-7. Conor Cox had scored six of the hosts’ first half total and Sam Tarrant did score the first goal of the second period. However Listowel simply had no response for a period of 3-5 without reply for the visitors. Liam Kearney, Andrew Garnett and the impressive Evan Cronin were the scorers of the three goals as the final score was 4-18 to 2-11 in the East Kerry side’s favour, Tarrant getting his second green flag in consolation.

Kenmare Shamrocks had 17 points to spare over Listry meanwhile as goals from Dean Cassidy, Brian O’Sullivan and Kevin Price gave them a 3-15 to 0-7 thumping of the home side.

Beaufort and Glenflesk played out the highest scoring and arguably the most entertaining affair in the Division as despite conceded 2-1 from the off, the Mid Kerry side recovered on home turf to record a 5-15 to 4-13 victory. A Darragh Roche penalty and a Gavin Kelly goal were the opening goals for the visitors but Beaufort scored thei two goals by the same means, a pe and from open play by Liam Care both occasions to bring the game in their favour and give them a two lead. Barry and Stephen O’Dwyer scored the South Kerry side’s first half goals but three points each from John Buckley and Mike McCarthy kept Currow in touch in trailing by 2-3 to 0-7 at half-time. A combination of John McMahon (2) and McCarthy pulled Currow level and even though Jamie O’Sullivan appeared to have given the visitors the win, McMahon and Buckley came up with the scores to secure the hosts’ win.

St Pats/Blennerville won a St Brendans Board derby in the other game played as a better third-quarter performance saw them get the better of Ardfert away from home by 1-13 to 1-10.

Paudie Carroll for the hosts and Willie Hurley for the visitors exchanged firsthalf goals in quick succession as the teams went in level at 1-6 apiece. Hurley and Liam O’Sullivan points St Pats towards victory as despite four points from John Egan and the best efforts of Kevin Shanahan and Trevor Wallace, Ardfert went down to their second loss of the campaign with a three point defeat.
