Jimmy Doyle from Sliabh Luachra presented by Bryan O’ Leary The final Handed Down of the present series will honour one of Co. Kerry’s favourite musicians Jimmy Doyle.
Presented by Brayn O’ Leary it promises to be once again a great night at the Heritage Centre Scartaglin on this Sat April 22nd. Special guest musicians on the night include Jimmy Doyle, Connie O’ Connell, Eibhlín DePaor, Joe O’ Sullivan and Ciaran O’ Sullivan. Our guest young musicians are Jamie O’ Donoghue and Kayleigh Doyle who are grandchildren of Jimmy Doyle. Our singer is Jimmy O’ Brien. We would like to thank all who attended this seasons Handed Down and look forward to welcoming all to World Fiddle Day on May 20th in Scartaglin when a full programme of events will start at 12 noon.
AWARD WINNERS
Congratulations and well done to three ladies from the Scartaglin area who were presented with awards at the inaugural Connect Kerry Hair and Beauty Awards at a glamorous ceremony held recently at the Rose Hotel in Tralee. The ladies were Karina O’ Connor -- Kerry brow/lash specialist from the Beauty by the Beach Salon in Ballybunion, Norma Reidy of Shine Hair Castleisland who received her award for her outstanding contribution to the hair industry and Noeleen O’ Shea (Noeleen Tangney) of Noeleen’s Beauty Salon Castleisland, her award being for years of service to the beauty industry. Well done ladies and nice to see hard work and dedication being recognised and honoured. Best of luck to all three of you for the future.

Good to see that funding has been made available for the carrying out of improvement works to the following stretches of roadway in this locality as some are definitely in need of repair. CÚL CAMPS
Kerry GAA Kellogs Cúl Camps will once again be held during the summer and the Cúl Camps at Scartaglin GAA grounds will be on week 7 which is from Monday August 14th to Friday August 18th -- both dates inclusive and that’s a week that will be eagerly looked forward to by children from the local area
ROSE BUDS 2017
The Rose of Tralee organisers are seeking Rose Buds to accompany the 2017 Rose of Tralee contestants. Young girls should be between the ages of 6-10 and anyone interested should apply before Wednesday May 24th, which is the closing date for applications. Each rose bud selected will be twinned with a Rose, take part in two parades and will attend a Rose Bud party with the Roses during the Festival.
VOLUNTEERS
Would you like to spend 1012 days in Kenya doing charitable work. The Ray of Sunshine Foundation is starting a project in Mombasa in Kenya in January/ February 2018 wherein they will build a home for young boys who have been taken off the streets and are victims of sex trafficking. The foundation is seeking volunteers to go on this trip but they need to be tradesmen or tradeswomen and they must raise €3,000 prior to departure. What are required are plumbers. Painters, block-layers, electricians, roofers, plasterers etc. If you feel you can help and would like to take part in the project, contact Charlie Farrelly on (087) 2056150.
DEATH
The death took place last week of Sr. Margaret Mary (Peg) Rahilly of The Sisters of Mary and Joseph of Tallaght Dublin and formerly of Knockacorrin. The late Sr. Margaret was in her early eighties and is survived by her sisters Mary and Sheila and by her brothers Dan and Mickey. The deceased was laid to rest in Kilsarcon Cemetery on Tuesday last. May she Rest In Peace.
