EXTENSION OF SEWER

At a recent meeting of the South and West Kerry Municipal District, Councillor Michael Cahill called on Irish Water to extend the Public Sewer out the Caragh Lake road.

1. Cllr. M Cahill: That Kerry County Council request Irish Water as a matter of priority to extend the Public Sewer from Caithir Lakes out the Caragh Lake road as far as (Details with Directorate) Rangue, Killorglin. Reply: Irish Water wrote to Kerry County Council in 2016, outlining that it currently has no funding stream to provide (or extend) services to properties with private sewerage facilities, except at the expense of the property owners and/or on foot of Connection Agreements. Irish Water’s policy on the development of infrastructure for dealing with waste water is to give priority to existing Sewerage Schemes in towns to which ECJ Rulings apply, and on meeting the requirements of the EPA’s Discharge Licenses for existing waste water schemes. Kerry County Council’s business to-date with Irish Water suggests that the funding of extensions of the sewer networks at locations such as Rangue in Killorglin, while desirable, is not currently among the priorities of the utility.

SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

At the same meeting, Councillor Cahill also called on Kerry County Council to carry out safely improvements at Library Place. Cllr. M Cahill: In order to facilitate people gathering in Library Place for local events, I propose Kerry County Council carry out a number of safety improvements as a matter of extreme urgency including (a) access to power points to allow for P A (b) temporary staging and (c) improved lighting.

BASKETBALL

Our National League team Keanes Supervalu have completed their second season competing at a National Level. We won Basketball Ireland Coach of the month twice this season with James Weldon in November for his leadership which led to a ten game run undefeated earlier in the season.

Last week Basketball Ireland announced March players and coaches of the month awards. James Weldon again was chosen as coach of the month in National League division as well as Garny Garcia Nivar our Spanish player playing with us and working in our sponsors store Keanes SuperValu. Garny contributed 50 points in the League Cup weekend and contributed offensively and defensively with his rebounding over the League Cup and was awarded MVP in Letterkenny.

All this was achieved despite our injury list where Dan Griffin picked up an injury the week before our first game last October and also our American player Kev Grey picked up another leg injury which finished both their seasons in our first round cup game where we defeated Maree away in Galway who were the defending champions

Keanes SuperValu from joined runners up in the southern conference winning 13 out of their 16 games.

3 of our players finished top in the stats table Damon Jones averaging 30 points per game, Garny Garcia Nivar averaging 14 rebounds per game and Sanjay Bongoma 4.5 steals per game.

In the overall Men’s Division one we finished 4th overall. But in competing again in the League Cup we were crowned champions overcoming Maree (league winners) in the semi final and Neptune (cup winners) in the final which took place last weekend in Letterkenny

We have Keanes SuperValu as main sponsor, with plenty more contributing also. Bunkers bar provided food after each home game, always a warm welcome from Declan and Breda Falvey in Falvey’s bars as well as the Sheahan family in Francie Sheahans bar, other contributors include Fexco, astellas, Slogagh Signs, O Sullivans Bakery, Killorglin Sports Complex , Killorglin CYMS, Tyther Bookmakers, the Old forge as well as individuals like Edso Crowley and Robert Murphy

Our under 18 men who train with and have participated in some of the National league games have been chosen to represent Ireland on the under 17 panel namely Eoin O Sullivan, Liam Croke and David McCarthy.

Our American player Kev Grey also helped the secondary schools and some of the national schools with coaching throughout the season

Finally Basketball Ireland announced their All Star teams and three for our players were included Garny Garcia Nivar, Declan Wall and Kev Grey
