100 years and counting for Austin Stacks

-

LITTLE did the men who gathered in Rock Street in 1917 know that their idea to start a Gaa club would end up enriching the lives of so many people, home and abroad, one-hundred years later. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Austin Stack GAA Club which grew from its humble beginnings as ‘Rock Street’ to become the one most successful clubs in the land.

The club is currently releasing treasured memories of its history using a combination of video and audio recordings. This is an important focus for the club as it wants to ensure future generations gain a sense of the huge pride that comes with being a Rockie. The past is what drives every club in the pursuit of a prosperous future and when one reflects on the ‘galaxy of stars’ privileged enough to have worn the black-and-amber jersey in the past century, it’s easy understand why the club is eager to ensure it has one hell of a party in 2017!

While ‘The Rock’ has always stood for more than just a GAA club, the latter is what allows people to attach a sense of identity to something of substance; and substance is something Austin Stacks GAA Club has in abundance. The last word on this goes to Club Chairman, Liam Lynch, who captures it perfectly: “The Rock is each and every one… it is our forefathers and future generations… it is us.”
