Olympian Scott Evans for Moyvane

- BY PAUL BRENNAN

IRISH Olympian Scott Evans is coming to Moyvane for an exhibition and coaching night in badminton at the invitation of the Moyvane Badminton Club.

Evans became the first Irish man to win a match at an Olympic Games when he reached the Round of 16 in Rio last year, and the Dubliner will be in Moyvane on May 12 to give a coaching workshop to local players and also take on a couple of Kerry players in an exhibition match.

IRELAND’S no.1 badminton player will be making a special appearance at a fundraising event in Moyvane next month.

Olympian Scott Evans is Ireland’s top ranked badminton player and will be playing an exhibition match and giving a coaching class at the invitation of the Moyvane Badminton Club on Friday, May 12.

Evans was the first Irish man to play in the Olympics Games when he competed in the Beijing Games in 2008. He also competed in the London Olympics in 2012.

In 2016 in Rio he became the first Irish man to win a badminton game at an Olympic Games. Indeed, he won both his group matches in Brazil to qualify for the Round of 16.

Moyvane is the current Badminton Ireland Club of the Year and it’s testament to the club’s standing that they have secured an appearance by Evans.

Evans will conduct a coaching workshop for junior and senior club players from 6-8pm, which will be followed by the official welcome, a Q&A session and an exhibition match. Kerry players Tom Bourke and James Flaherty will play Evan on the night.

Admission is €10 for adults and €5 for under-15s (juniors). Tickets are available ahead of the event from Mike Corridan at 0879175063, and admission price includes refreshments.

All proceeds raised go to Moyvane Badminton Club.
