Lispole edge out Cordal
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Lispole 3-13 Cordal 0-11
THE battle of the Division 4 and Division 5 leaders in the County League went the way of the Division 5 side as Lispole made it through to a semi-final spot with a convincing nine point win over Cordal.
With home advantage the hosts raced into a significant lead early on and led by 1-3 to 0-1 after the opening 10 minutes. Cordal though through two points by centre-forward Philip Griffin succeeded in reducing the gap.
The situation worsened for Cordal in the closing 10 minutes as Lispole outscored them by 2-5 to 0-4. One of the goals coming from Alan Ó Dubháin, who had previously played a significant role in setting up the opening goal of the match by Deaglán Ó Súilleabháin. That burst gave the West Kerry side complete control of the contest at half-time in leading by 3-8 to 0-7.
The advantage went out to twelve points after the restart courtesy of Ciarán Ó Trike Ó Súilleabháin and Breandán Ó Deargáin before Cordal goalkeeper Seán Óg Ó Ciardubháin got the East Kerry side’s first score of the second-half.
The hosts didn’t ease up though as they continued to make forays up the field and that combined with great defensive displays by individuals such as Eoghan Ó Grifín and Darran Ó Cearbhúil ensured that the result was never in doubt by the time the final whistle was blown.
Lispole’s eleven point win continues a great start to the year by them as they will start to consider success at the level to go with their novice win of 2016.
