CURROW CURRANS

-

CURROW LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB: On Thursday last April 20th our U16 Team played Spa in the Secound round of the County League in Spa. On the night we were missing 4 players but even with this disadvantage we played a huge part in what was a fantastic game. Spa started strongly and led by 1-02 to no score after 10 minutes; but after a few positional switches; the Currow full back line Lauren Butler, Joyce O’Connor and Marie Daly, and Half backs Anna Scanlon, Hillary O’Connor and Emma Buckley got to grips with the Spa Forwards and our Midfield Edel Brosnan and Eilish Brosnan began to dominate and our Forwards were getting a great supply of ball. Goals by Ciara Fitzgerald after a great passing movement involving Edel Brosnan, Orla O’Sullivan and Ellen Dennehy, and another by Gracie Daly after a flowing movement involving Anna Scanlon, Eilish Brosnan, Jessica O’Leary and Siobhain Brosnan; put us into the Lead and further Goals by Ciara Fitgerald, Gracie Daly and Ellen Dennehy and Points by Orla O’Sullivan, Gracie and Ciara saw us lead 5-03 to 2-06 at half time. A number of injuries to key players saw Fiona Brosnan coming onto the Team in the second half and also forced us to move players around as some has to continue Playing while injured. This greatly weakened out Team and even though we scored 2 more Goals by Emma Buckley and Ciara Fitzgerald and Points by Orla O’Sullivan, Ciara Fitzgerald and Emma Buckley and our Goalie Cait O’Mahony brought off some brilliant saves as our Backs battled valliantly to keep Spa out, they eventually won on a Final Score of 7-11 to 7-06. Currow Team was Cait O’Mahony, Lauren Butler, Joyce O’Connor, Maria Daly, Anna Scanlon, Hillary O’Connor, Emma Buckley, Edel Brosnan, Eilish Brosnan, Jesica O’Leary, Gracie Daly, Orla O’Sullivan, Ellen Dennehy, Ciara Fitzgerald, Siobhain Brosnan, Fiona Brosnan. On Sunday last April 23rd our U14 Team travelled to Dingle to play the home Team in the County League. Playing with a strong wind in the first half we were totally on top with our MidField Caithlin Twomey and Fiona Brosnan dominating and getting great ball into our Forwards who scored at will. We opened with a point from Julia Curtin, and then after a sweeping move involving Danielle Moriarty, Caithlin Twomey, Aoife Roche and Allanagh Butler, Emma Buckley finished to the Dingle net. Further Points by Fiona brosnan and Allanah Butler were followed by another defence splitting move involving Cara Fleming, Julia Curtin and Aoife Roche with Clodagh Coffey finishing to the net to leave us leading 2-03 to 0-01 at half time. Dingle now playing with a strong wind started well in the Second half and after 2 great saves by Elaine Cronin in the Currow goal they eventually got through for 2 gaols. Our Full Back line of Hillary O’Connor and Doireann O’Sullivan and Half Backs Aoife Fleming, Cara Fleming and Danielle Moriarty then got to grips with the Dingle forwards again and with subs Jennifer Culloty and Megan Dennehy joining in we pushed up Field to add 4 more points from Emma Buckley, Julia Curtin (2) and Cladagh Coffey to run out winners on a score of 2-07 to 2-01. The U14 Team was Elaine Cronin, Doireann O’Sullivan, Hillary O’Connor, Aoife Fleming, Danielle Moriarty, Cara Fleming, Caitlin Twomey, Fiona Brosnan, Aoife Roche, Emma Buckley, Julia Curtin,Clodagh Coffey, Allanagh Butler, Jennifer Culloty, Megan Dennehy. On Sunday next April 30th at 12 noon our Senior Ladies play Listowel in Currow (Game put back from last Sunday), while that evening at 5.30 our U14 Team play Churchill in Churchill.
