KILLARNEY LEGION

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP: Killarney Legion 2-14 Dingle 2-14 Anyone who paid at the gate coming in definitely wasn’t looking for a refund coming out as this epic finished level. Even the extra 20 minutes couldn’t seperate the 2 teams as they slugged it out for 80 minutes. We looked especially dangerous in the first quarter as James O Donoghue stole in for a goal and shortly after Conor Keane was most unlucky to see his audacious lob come back off the crossbar. At the other end Captain Danny Sheahan and All Star Paul Geaney had a ding dong battle as Paul slipped in for a goal and there was little between the sides at half time.1-7 to 1-5 in Dingles favour. There was a slight drought in scoring in the second half with Dingle again slipping in for a goal to open up a 5 point gap midway through. But Conor Keane, Thomas Moriarty and James O’Donoghue kept chpiping away with Jack O Neill going through some lung busting work. Captain Danny Sheahan cavaliered upfield to win a penalty which was duly converted by James. The last 8 minutes were tense as Danny again stormed forward to nudge Legion in front in injury time before Mikey Geaney in a rare moment broke off the shackles of Denis Sheahan to equalise with the last kick of the game. The pace of the game didn’t drop in extra time as both teams gave their all. Dingle lead by 1 point with the last play of the game being a Legion free from 50 yards out.Up stepped substitute Finbarr Murphy with ice in his veins to kick a superb point and bring the curtain down on an absorbing draw. The team management will be delighted with the way the lads never relented and kept going to the bitter end with a draw being most deserving. Scorers James O Donoghue 2-4,Conor Keane 0-4,Thomas Moriarty 0-2,Danny Sheahan 0-1,Denis Sheahan 0-1,Donal Lyne 0-1,Finbarr Murphy 0-1. SENIOR LADIES: Killarney Legion 6-11 Laune Rangers 1-7 The Senior Ladies travelled to JP O Sullivan park in Killorglin and came home victorious with a fine win over Laune Rangers. With more or less a full panel they played to somewhere near their potential and ran out deserving winners. Great building and progress under the stewardship of John Doona and Susanne Smith . BOYS U14 FEILE: Direen was a hub of activity last Wednesday as the qualifying round of the National Feile was held. Our lads acquitted themselves very well and we’re most unlucky with 2 of the games going to the wire. The big positive was it gave the management an opportunity for every panel member to get a taste of competitive action. They are back in County League action now with games vs Castlegregory and Fossa. GIRLS U16 Our U16 girls took to the field at Derreen for 2nd. round of the county league against Na Gaeil. In what was a very tough and competitive game, the lead swapped hands several times in the first half with the half finishing 2-4 apiece. Despite Na Gaeil taking the first score of the 2nd half, the Legion girls showed great spirit and determination winning several individual battles around the field to forge into a 5 point lead as the game entered final stages. Still there was furher excitement as Na Gaeil grabbed a goal late on to force a nail-biting finish but once again our ladies showed great character, in the process doing themselves proud and held out to win on a score line of 3-10 to 3-7. Well done Ladies. Next game is home v Ballymac FIXTURE: Good news on the fixture front our 1st.round Co.Championship game V Kenmare Shamrocks has been fixed for Sunday 14th. May at 6p.m. in Derreen.
