COUNTY MINOR LEAGUE: Cordal/Scart 1-11 Rathmore 0-09 There was victory for the home side at the end of this semi final played in ideal conditions in Cordal. Cordal/Scart got off to a good start and led 0-04 to 0-02 at the end of the first quarter with the home sides scores coming from Sean Walsh, Kieran Enright, Eddie Horan and Eamon Nolan while Anthony Darmody and David Dineen were on target for Rathmore. Both defenses were doing well, with Padraig O Connor and Josh Kerin particularly impressive for Cordal/Scart. Two points a piece in the second quarter left the home side leading 0-06 to 0-04 at half time. Cordal/Scart lost Josh Kerin to a very harsh black card on the call of half time. Cordal/Scart got off to a good start in the second half with Shay Walsh pointing a free in the second minute after a foul on Sean Walsh. Anthony Darmody pointed a free for Rathmore in the 3rd minute. A minute later Shay pointed another free before Sean Walsh kicked a tremendous point, flicking the ball up on the run and curling over in the 5th minute. Great defending by Eddie Horan prevented Rathmore from scoring a goal before Kieran Enright struck for a vital goal at the other end after his first shot crashed back off the crossbar. Another Shay Walsh pointed free in the 16th minute had the home side leading 1-10 to 0-05. Rathmore then had a good spell scoring three points without reply, two frees by Anthony Darmody and one from the boot of midfielder Dan Murphy. An excellent save by Conor Mitchell prevented a certain Rathmore goal in the 20th minute. Eddie Horan capped off a fine display with a difficult long range free in the 27th minute with a late Cathal Ryan point ending the scoring with a Rathmore point a minute later.
