The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Under-17 footballers play Tipp in once-off Munster competition for 2018 minors
THE Kerry Under-17 footballers, who are under the same management as the minors, begin their season with a home game in Austin Stack Park Tralee on Tuesday next against Tipperary at 7pm.
There are a number of players involved with both the Under 17s and minors such as goalkeeper Daividas Uosis, the Horan brothers and Michael Slattery to name but a few and a large panel has been in training.
Should Kerry win that game they will face the winners of the other semi final between Cork and Limerick and that would also be a home venue for Kerry.
The Under-17 competition, of course, is a competition designed to give inter-county competition to a group of players who would otherwise have missed out on inter-county activity due to the lowering of the Minor age group to 17 from 2018.
Minors
WATERFORD’S loss to Care in the Munster Minor football championship Round Robin series last week means the Kerry will play Cork in the Munster semi final on May 10 in Pairc Uí Rinn where the loser will exit the Minor competition for the year.
Jimmy Keane
JIMMY Keane of Brosna was appointed the new Kerry Junior Football team manager for the next two years at Monday night’s County Committee meeting. Jimmy trained Brosna to an All Ireland Junior Club championship title two years ago.
Lotto
THE first draw for the newly revamped Kerry GAA Lotto was made at Monday night’s county committee meeting. The numbers drawn were 21, 19, 1 and 26 and there were no winners of the €20,000 Lotto Jackpot. Sineád Piggott of Killorglin won a signed Kerry Jersey.
