CO.CHAMPIONSHIP Austin Stacks 4-13 Killarney Legion 3-6 Tosú maith leath na h-oibre as the old Irish saying goes is what the Legion needed but the Stacks got.Right from the off they hit the net and turned in a totally dominant first half display that effectively ended the game as a contest.An over worked Legion defence struggled to contain their opponents and on the other side too much hard won ball was dropped short to the goalie or cut off by the Stacks rearguard.F acing into the second half 10pts. down was in itself a huge ask and in a repeat of the first minutes of the game the Stacks struck for another goal with their first attack. Ironically the next twenty minutes saw the Legion wake from their lethargy and with Chris Davies and Cathal Sheahan outstanding in the backs allied to the introduction of Conor Keane and Tom Moriarty they took the game to their vaunted opponents. Indeed with Billy McGuire now placed in the full forward line they showed that with some crisp hand passing and better support running that they could make progress. Goals from Jamie O Sullivan, Conor Keane and James O Donoghue gave some semblance of respectability to the scoreboard but overall a chastening enough experience. UNDER 14 CO.LEAGUE FINAL Killarney Legion 5-7 Na Gaeil 3-18 As was the case with the seniors a poor first half performance was to cost a gallant Legion side against a very neat Na Gaeil team. Going in at the break trailing 2-10 to 2-3 left them with a fair deficit to make up. However they gave it a fair good go and managed to close the gap to just a single point and then full forward Jamie O Sullivan was desperately unlucky to see a goal bound bullet rebound off the crossbar and away to safety.Two cracking gaols by Donnchadh Warren at critical stages breathed new life into the Legion and indeed the same player was unlucky to have a shot for his third blocked.At the other end Legion goalie Aaron O Sullivan registered three fine saves at crucial stages to keep his goal intact and with the backs growing in confidence and Jamie Alade dominant in the middle the forwards got their hands on plenty ball.A pity that Kieran Pierce was just getting over a bout of sickness as his contribution is always vital.Na Gaeil were a well coached side that kept that vital gap on the scoreboard and despite the Legion’s heroics time just ran out on them.W ell done lads. UNDER 14 GIRLS SPONSORSHIP Our 14 girls unveiled their brand new design jersey at a launch on Tuesday evening. Our Ladies Football section of the club continues to flourish with membership on a parity to the boys. This is testament to the great work done by our coaches and officials at this level. Sean Murphy and his family have had an association with the club which goes back to its foundation and we find it fitting that he continues this with Lord Kenmares sponsorship of the new strip.
