Fun and fresh air in aid of Faha NS
THIS was the second staging of the fun 5k fundraising walk and run in aid of Faha National School, and twice the organisers, Faha National School Parents Association, have been blessed with the most favourable of conditions on Sunday (June 11).
“It was absolutely perfect in terms of the weather,” Parents’ Association Secretary Ursula Flynn told The Kerryman.
“Because of that, we got an excellent turnout at the Castlerosse Hotel car park even though this was only our second year holding the event. We didn’t do a head-count, but I would say we had somewhere between 150 and 200 people participating.
“We hope to see it getting bigger and better every year, but we’re well on our way at this rate. The first year was great, but we were on a learning curve, and I’m very happy with how it’s progressed in only a year!”
The emphasis was very much on fun, with medals given to all the participants afterwards.
“Everyone was allowed to go along at their own pace. Some people put on a bit of speed and were running past relaxed walkers who were sipping on a takeaway cup of coffee! But both approaches were fine in our book!
“We’re not sure as of yet how much we’re raised, but the attendance was excellent as I said, and I’d like to thank everyone who came out and supported us.”
Ursula was also quick to acknowledge event host Jules Weakley and Pa and Shari Murphy from Playball for adding to the sense of fun, while also thanking volunteers, sponsors, and Castlerosse Hotel for contributing to what was a successful second edition of the fun event.
