GO KERRY AND KERRYMAN’S PHOTO CONTEST WINNER IS FÊTED AT FÉILE NA MBLÁTH
THE winner of the Go Kerry Kerryman school’s photography competition has been described as one of the county’s best up and coming photographers.
Earlier this month Grace Ellen McElligott from Ballybunion was picked as winner of the ‘Day in Life of Kerry’ photography competition for transition and fifth year students.
The competition was run by tourism promotion body Go Kerry in association with The Kerryman and asked young photographers across the county to take photos of any aspect of day to life in the Kingdom.
The winning shot – an absolutely stunning image of a group on Ballybunion beach as the sun sets – was picked by multi award winning Kerryman photographer Domnick Walsh.
Domnick described the Tarbert Comprehensive student’s photo as a work of art.
“It’s a fabulous picture that shows a real talent for photography and a knowledge of how to use a camera to get the best possible image,” he said.
“I’ve no doubt that we’ll be seeing a lot of Grace Ellen’s pictures in the papers and in exhibitions in the future. She has a rare talent,” said Domnick.
Grace Ellen – who was accompanied by her mum Siobhan – picked up her award at a prize ceremony during the Féile na mBláth Festival in Tralee Town Park at the weekend.
The three day family festival – which coincided with a few days of glorious weather – was a resounding success and saw thousands of visitors descend on the park to enjoy a range of entertainment and activities ranging from medieval battle re-enactments to flower and dog competitions.
